Henry, a Black Labrador, who is almost nine years old now. I got him when he was two years old from Puppies Behind Bars. His birth date was October of 2009 and I have had him since 2011. Henry reacts to my being triggered by looking into my eyes, licking my hands, and leaning into me.
The training Henry went through, from eight weeks until between 20-28 months old, was daily training centered on the work they would be expected to do when they were assigned to a Veteran. Once assigned, there would be Team Training for a period of 15 days that the dog and each Veteran completed together.
Today, I am married to a loving and understanding woman. Henry is the reason I was even able to meet her. We are a family and we continue to work on our issues together. I am thankful for the Veteran that informed our Peer Group about Puppies Behind Bars. I am thankful for Gloria Stoga for Founding and Leading Puppies Behind Bars. I am thankful for my wife, Angela. Above all, I am thankful for Henry and the life he has assisted me in living.
No longer am I alone. No longer am I afraid. Henry is my lifeline that continues to impress me with his love and devotion.
