When you picked up this book you joined the fight against Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and in support of its victims in and out of uniform. For me this is highly personal. PTSD invades your life with claws and teeth. It can hit you in a war zone like Afghanistan where it grabbed me, or it can pounce on you in the civilian world anywhere that repeated, life-threatening trauma tears into your body, mind and spirit. First responders and victims of domestic violence are some of those in civilian life who have been invaded by it. PTSD is a potentially lethal enemy. We must fully understand it and then defeat it. We can do it. Especially if we take it on together. All of us with all of America’s diverse resources. That kind of commitment is necessary if we're going to defeat this invader. And that is why this book is titled TOTAL WAR ON PTSD.
Got PTSD or know someone with PTSD? I do too...it’s me. I’ve been dealing with it since 2010. Please take my hand, at least long enough to read this letter, if nothing else. I think you will find that together we can get through this and create a better tomorrow.
