members—the Marines—no so much—Marine officers are expected to experience the same harsh conditions as our troops when in the field—many of
us considered the troop ship carrying us to combat was ‘in the field’—at least I did and I know that most of the officers in E Co. and 2/7 felt the same. At some point during our cruise we learned that our first stop would be in Hawaii where the ship would be resupplied and the crew and the troops given an opportunity to go ashore for a brief period of time.
