Drills Explanation
The week of July 15 is the start of the 2nd phase of the summer. The goal of this week is to introduce the Embiid 100 drill that will serve as a benchmark for shooting all the way until training camp. Once we do it 3 times to get an average, we will only do it once a week, and work on different shots on a daily basis. While balance, post work and wing footwork are still important to this phase, shooting takes the forefront. In Phase 1, we corrected some technical issues with the shot and strengthen Joel’s base. Now it is time to get a lot of reps up with higher intensity.
Basketbal Yoga
A series of balancing drills with a basketball that engage the lower body and the core while working on balance. It is used as a warm up drill to fire up the lower body.
Post Finishing Series
A series of finishes including hooks, counters, putbacks, touch shots, and drop steps. Used early in the workout while player is still getting loose. Should be 100% loose after this series.
Foundation Shooting
A breakdown of the shot in several layers. The focus is on the fee and the base of the players, making sure the player is balanced and uses his power properly without unnecessary movements. Earlier in the summer, this would be around 20 to 30 minutes of the workout depending on the days, but at this time, only a few minutes to remind our brain what we have worked on previously is enough.
Post Work
Post move routine vs semi-live defense with a pad. In phase 1, those moves are broken down
and no reading is involved. In phase 2, the player must read the defense accordingly and execute the correct move or counter.
Wing Footwork
Series of jabs, fakes and drives. Focus on balance and legal footwork.
2 in a row shooting
Makes 2 in a row mid range shots at each of the 5 spots, then 2 in a row 3s at each of the 5 spots.
5 in 50
50 shots total to make 5 in a row at each of the 5 spots while shooting mid range shots. Must make 5 in a row to move to next spot.
3 in 30
30 shots total to make 3 in a row at each of the 5 spots while shooting 3 point shots. Must make 3 in a row to move to next spot.
