but extraordinary people in general, also in my private life. They’re complex and unor- dinary people. Worthy of being described in poems and anecdotes. My whole life is nei- ther easy, nor boring. Once it’s like climb- ing the Himalayas, and another time it’s like falling into a tectonic trench. With my hyper- sensitivity, I have to keep balance. Of course, there are happy moments I sometimes write about as well.
I read Hanami and seemingly there’s nothing to surprise me, when suddenly I’m stopped by a poem And art historians are silent about:
of all Salvador Dali’s works
I would most like to see
his one-and-a-half-year service in a military unit

Please share this story with us...
I’ve read several biographical books about Sal- vador Dali. One of them contained information that the artist served in the army for a year and a half in his youth. Somehow, I find it difficult to imagine him in such a place. Who sent him there and why? It must have been a constant happening. I’d very much like to find more de- tailed information on the issue.
I’m also intrigued by the untitled poems:
***
at times
I cannot breathe
overwhelmed by the beauty of the Word and sometimes
I cannot breathe
terrified by its cruelty
Translated by Agnieszka Jankowska

she did not belong to the political party and refused to cooperate
with the secret services
even though she was offered money
an apartment and fame
successive Republics of Poland pass by she has a clear conscience and empty pockets

I understand it to be another important au- tobiographical theme telling us a lot about you. And I understand that’s how you mani- fest strong disengagement from politics. Do you still maintain the attitude?
Yes, it’s an autobiographical poem. Yes, I some- times look at this world from the Moon or dis- tant planet perspective. It helps me disengage. And not get involved in such short-term polit- ical activities and disputes. I can’t understand how people get bought so easily. And so eas- ily allow themselves to be divided and quar- rel. And that they devote so much attention to these matters. That everyone’s constantly dis- cussing these topics as if there were no more interesting issues in the world. It’s not that I don’t know what’s going on in politics, but I devote no attention to it. I think we should keep our distance. I certainly know politicians using their authority for the common good. I value them very much. Undoubtedly, the fact who governs a given company, municipality, city, or country, matters. Because that individ- ual takes huge responsibility and sets the tone for the whole organisation under their control. So let’s choose wise, good politicians.
I had various offers and opportunities I didn’t take advantage of. I didn’t want to be dependent on anyone. And I paid a high price for this inde- pendence. I raised and educated two children
