typical β€œWhat do you do” question when you meet someone. My husband has a funny little story about that, perhaps I can get
   him to share it sometime
In any case, back to the article:
A music genre is a conventional category that identifies some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. It is to be distinguished from musical form
and musical style, although in practice these terms are sometimes used interchangeably.
Well, I have been described many ways, but conventional is not one of them! 🀣
Folks often become a little unsettled when they follow me at www.rossaliedrysdale.com, and find that I perform a wide range of musical types, and styles.
Also, when you look for me on Amazon Music, or Spotify or Apple Music, people search for very specific types of music, and will sometimes miss out on me, since even these platforms like to pigeon hole musicians into one thing or another.
There are literally hundreds if not thousands of musical styles or genres in the World. 🌎
My parents were church ministers, πŸ’’ and we travelled around Canada, as they took on different assignments over the years. So I was, from a very early age exposed to a wide variety of people, cultures, and different musical styles all within the confines of a church centred community.
This of course was a supplement to all of the incredible secular musical styles and types that I was exposed to going to school in
rural Alberta. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
πŸŽ“ In addition to the musical influences of the church community, and just listening with my friends at school, my parents made sure to provide me with an extensive formal music education, and I spent many years taking formal classical piano lessons (completed Grade Ten Toronto Conservatory of Music), as well as formal
singing lessons. 🎹
