National Congress Of Black Women Hold 3rd Annual Luncheon

Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm Award
The National Congress of Black Women, Inc. (NCBW), Orlando Chapter, recently held their 3rd Annual Founder’s Day Luncheon. Community activists were honored by the organization during the luncheon.
Held on Saturday, August 15, 2015, the luncheon was used to showcase some of Orlando’s unsung commu- nity workers.
In keeping the principles of our Founders, Congress- woman Shirley Chisholm and Dr. C. Delores Tucker, NCBW-Orlando, chose, Clerk of Court Tiffany Moore Russell to receive the Congress- woman Shirley Chisholm Award for being “Unbought and Un- bossed;” Dr. Lavon Wright Bracy, received the Dr. C. Delores Tucker Award for her activism with the NAACP and her Civic En- gagement work in Orange County; Jacqueline LeGare Walters, received the Outstanding Service to the Chapter Award for her work with the College for Kids Program; Candice Cruz, received the Rising Star Award for her work with victims of Human Traf-

ficking; and Walter Hawkins was awarded the Good Brother Award for his support of the programs of NCBW and the partner- ship with the POPS Program.
These awardees have demonstrated their commit- ment by the work they do un- conditionally for African American Women and their families. The speaker for the luncheon was Cornelle Maxfield, who delivered a motivating message for the attendees, the information that was related regarding being relevant and making yourself relevant gave the luncheon attendees some- thing to ponder as we ap- proach the 2016 elections.

educate youth on the respon- sibility of good citizenship and encourage them to regis- ter to vote and to learn and understand the functions of government. It also strives to provide opportunities for in- ternships at the local, state and national levels; to en- courage African American women to engage in political education, voter registration, forums and seminars; to ed- ucate and encourage African American women to seek elective and appointive of- fices at all levels of govern- ment.
First Responders Receive Free Admission To Theme Parks
First responders will have an opportunity to attend theme parks free of charge during the month of September. Busch Gardens® Tampa and SeaWorld® Orlando are honoring Florida first responders through September. The first responders will also receive a special offer for ad- ditional tickets for family and friends.
“This special offer is our way to show our support and appreciation for the commitment and dedication of Florida’s first responders,” Jim Dean, Busch Gardens Tampa park president said. “Our hope is that these courageous people and their families will visit our parks, share time with one another and create memories that last a lifetime,” Donnie Mills, SeaWorld Orlando

Qualifying first responders include: All Florida fire rescue first responders; Florida emergency
medical services employees (EMT/EMS/not hospital employees); All Florida police and sheriff offices; Florida Highway Patrol; Florida Department of Corrections; Florida Department of Law Enforcement; Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission field officers; Florida Forest Service Forest Rangers; Florida Park Service law enforcement; Department of Homeland Security law enforcement agents; and Florida Department of Environmental Protection law enforcement.

Tom Joyner To Host Annual Family Reunion Expo

On Sunday, September 6th, Tom Joyner, of the Tom Joyner Morning Show will host a free Family Expo. The event will take place at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando.
The 2015 Family Expo is expected to be the largest in the history of the Tom Joyner Family Reunion. The tradi- tional event begins on Friday, September 4th and concludes on Monday, September 7th.
This year, families are in- vited to spend the Labor Day Weekend at the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion. M s . Katie Neumann, Public Relations Coordinator for TJM Communication, Inc., said, “The Expo will begin at 9 a.m. in the mornings until 6 p.m. The events are free and
open to the public. The con- certs are paid events.”
This year, the event is of- fering a full line of entertain- ment in keeping with the family reunion theme. Some of those expected to attend the event are cast members of such shows as “Living Sin- gle,” and “Black-ish.” There will also be a “Good Times” cast reunion.
Tom Joyner said, “The Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion creates an atmos- phere of one true family that celebrates people and what we love. When we first cre- ated this event, we wanted families to experience a truly spectacular vacation that was unique, all-inclusive, afford- able, and more than anything --- entertaining. And not only have we done that, but we’ve done it for more than ten years strong.
“We have created a new Black Family tradition that has come to represent enter- tainment, exclusivity and fun and I hope we continue creat- ing lifetime memories for families for years to come.”
On-air personality Sybil Wilkes, along with Taelor and Sydni Scott, daughters of the late ESPN anchor Stu- art Scott will host a special book club. There will also be live broadcasts featuring Yolanda Adams and Al Sharpton, autograph sign- ing sessions, and other events.
