Mother, Daughter Own Successful Cleaning Company
Destined For Greatness Youth Summit
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Eight years ago, Xiomara Reyes and her daughter, Escarlin Cor- torreal came to the United States from their native Do- minican Republic.
When they started look- ing for work, the pair was successful with different cleaning companies in the area.
“We did that for 8 years, and finally decided instead of doing this for someone else, we could run our own company,” said Escarlin.
“We put together our sav- ings, purchased the materi- als we needed to get started, did a lot of networking , and my job as a bartender put me in contact with a lot of po- tential clients.”
Because the pair live on Channelside, they named their business Channelside Professional Cleaning.
The mother and daughter team started their company a year ago, and a lot of their business comes from the Channelside area.
Escarlin Cortorreal and Xiomara Reyes.
“We do commercial and residential, and because it’s just the two of us, we don’t take on really big jobs,” said Xiomara.
“When we do get a job that requires a little more service, we bring in a couple of people to help out.”
Xiomara and Escarlin said a regular work day for them can vary, depending on the job and location.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to be the cleaning company for real estate agencies who want their houses cleaned before they show them to potential buy- ers.”
Xiomara and Escarlin said they still have family members living in the Do- minican Republic, and they would love to open a busi- ness there.
“My mom did have a business there selling and marketing health food and fitness products,” said Es- carlin.
“That’s something she wants to continue to do here.”
Xiomara and Escarlin said they are both satisfied with the direction their com- pany is going, and expect greater success as word spreads about their com- pany and their reputation in the community.

Month Of September Declared Music Month
The month of September has been declared Music Month by the Us Community Organization, and two em- powering events have been set up to deal specifically with the subject of music.
Inspired by Wide a Woke Wednesdays, Us will present “SourceTalk Saturday: Uni- versal Language.”
The event will be staged as a town hall meeting. The open forum discussion will address the issues that are proving to be detrimental to the survival and progression of the community by getting to the source of the problems.
The open discussion part of the show will be getting into the subject of music.
The organizers of the event want people to know that music represents the universal language of hu- manity, and it has and for-

ever will be, utilized by man as arguably the most influen- tial presence known in life.
Some of the angles that will be discussed involving music will be how the powers that be are influencing and using today’s popular music as a form of mental and spir- itual control through spells, the energy of sound and how
it effects people, the disre- specting of the art form of music and what it represents, and the commercialization of music which limits its cre- ativity.
“We’re calling for all con- cerned, willing and thought- ful individuals in the area to come out and join us in get- ting to the source of what ex- actly is music and why it is used, and for what purpose,” said YourHighness Ta- fari, Chairman of the Us Community Committee.
The forum is scheduled for September 12th, 5:30 p. m. to 7:30 p. m. at the Ybor Daily Market, 1920 East 7th Avenue.
Featured panelists will be recording artist Genolexis, Black Titanium Entertain- ment CEO/Artist Kevin Curry, and DJ Shizm from 95.7FM The Beat.
