Dr. Taraji P. Henson Shines At Howard University Commencement
Will Smith's ‘Bel-Air’ Becomes Peacock’s Most Successful Original Series
  WASHINGTON, DC –Taraji P. Henson, award-winning actress and Howard Univer- sity College of Fine Arts alumna who gradu- ated in 1995 with her baby boy in her hands, returned on May 7 as the commencement speaker. Henson was conferred an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, just before de- livering remarks.
“I would like to take this moment to rein- troduce myself: My name is Dr. Taraji Penda Henson, Howard class of 1995,” she said.
This year, Howard University awarded 1,953 degrees, including 1,225 undergraduate degrees and 711 graduate degrees.

 Will Smith's “Bel-Air,” which premiered on February 13, has broken records for subscribers, usage, and upgrades since it debuted on Peacock, quickly becoming the streaming service’s most successful original series. All episodes of the first season are currently available to stream. It is so popular that work on its second season is in the making, thanks to public demand. It is expected out in 2023.
On Monday, Peacock announced that at least 8 million ac- counts had viewed the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reboot.

 The lineup for this year’s Tribeca Festival was released on Monday. The festival is sched- uled to take place June 8 -19, in New York, with keynotes, panel discussions, and film screenings as some of the items in the pro- gram.
Big names such as Tyler Perry, Cynthia Erivo, Pharrell Williams, Dream Hamp- ton and W. Kamau Bell will be in atten- dance to talk about their work over the years in various Directing and Storytelling discus- sions.

   Viola Davis To Receive Cannes Women In Motion Award
 With the 2022 Cannes Film Festival just around the corner, it’s just been revealed that Viola Davis is set to be honored with the Women In Motion Award at this year’s festival.
Davis is being recog- nized “for her acting roles and her commitment to the rights of women and minori- ties,” according to a state- ment from award organizers, which also noted that the Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star

was “one of the most influen-
tial American actresses and producers of her time.”
“Her talent, hard work, choice of roles and the way she interprets them have earned her the very highest recognitions in the film in- dustry,” the statement con- tinued in part. “Viola Davis is one of the few Hollywood personalities to have won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, four SAG Awards, and what Hol- lywood calls the Triple Crown of Acting: two Tony Awards, an Oscar and an Emmy, for her roles in the stage play King Hedley II, Fences and its remarkable film adaptation, and the TV series How to Get Away with Murder. This astonishing record also makes her the only African American ac- tress to have received so many nominations and awards for her roles in the- ater, television and film.
