President Biden: 'White Supremacy A Poison That Has No Place In America'
Lisa Holder White Named
President Joe Biden
attacked the “hateful and per- verse ideology” behind the Buffalo massacre as he and first lady Jill Biden visited the city and paid tribute to the victims Tuesday.
In an emotional but pow- erful address to mourners, of- ficials and first responders, the president called on Amer- icans to “enlist” in the fight against racial hatred:
In America, evil will not win. I promise you. Hate will not prevail. White supremacy will not have the last word.
What happened here is simple and straightforward terrorism, domestic terror- ism, violence inflicted in the service of hate, and a vicious thirst for power.
The media, and politics, the internet, have radicalized angry and lost and isolated individuals into falsely believ- ing that they will be replaced. That’s the word. Replaced by
Illinois State Supreme Court
FIRST LADY JILL BIDEN AND PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN
Appellate Justice Lisa Holder White has been ap- pointed to succeed Illinois Supreme Court Justice Rita Garman, making Holder the first Black woman to serve on the state’s high court.
The Chicago Sun-Times
reported that Garman, 78, announced Monday that she will retire in July after 21 years on the bench and 48 years as a judge in the state. Since Garman’s retirement will come after the state pri- mary on June 28, the Illinois Supreme Court has the con- stitutional authority to ap- point her successor.
Holder White, 54, also a Republican, will be sworn in July 8. That will coincide with the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Holder White will hold the position until December
other people who don’t look like them.
I call on all Americans to reject the lie, and those who spread the lie for power, po- litical gain, and for profit.
Biden condemned years of racially-based attacks across the country.
We’ve seen the mass shootings in Charleston, South Carolina; El Paso, Texas and Pittsburgh. Last
year in Atlanta, this week in Dallas, Texas. Now in Buf- falo... Buffalo, New York...
White supremacy is a poi- son. It’s a poison running through our body politic that’s been allowed to fester and grow right in front of our eyes. No more. No more. We need to say as clearly and forcefully as we can, that the ideology of white supremacy has no place in America.

First Black Woman On
Judge Carlton Reeves
Nominated To Become First
Black Chair Of National
Sentencing Commission
A Mississippi federal judge could soon become the first Black chair of the U.S. Sen- tencing Commission after President Joe Biden an- nounced a group of nominees.
The Mississippi Free Press reports Biden nominated U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves of the Southern Dis- trict of Mississippi to lead the bipartisan agency, which Con- gress created in 1984.
“The Commission was cre- ated to reduce sentencing dis- parities and promote transparency and proportion- ality in criminal sentencing,” Biden said in a statement yesterday. “The Commission has lacked a quorum since 2019, which has prevented it from doing critical business.
“Today, President Biden is pleased to announce the nominations of these indi- viduals—a bipartisan slate in- cluding the first Black chair of
JUDGE CARLTON REEVES
the organization—whose con- firmations would allow the Commission to conduct its important work.”
If Reeves is confirmed, he would be the eighth chair while continuing to serve as a federal judge in Jackson. Reeves was appointed to the Southern District of Missis- sippi in 2010 by former Pres- ident Barack Obama.
