2017 African Hope Expo Rescheduled
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On any given weekend, various events take place in the Tampa Bay Area. In most instances, these events are planned months in advance.
Organizers select the perfect loca- tion and the perfect speakers to make the event successful. However, one of the things that is beyond their control is the weather.
Recently, preparations for Hurri- cane Irma resulted in events being cancelled and rescheduled at a later date. One such event was the “2017 African Hope Expo & USF Area Community Outreach.”
It had originally been planned for Saturday, September 9th. Its organiz- ers have now rescheduled it for Sat- urday, October 14th.
Teneba’s Haven, Inc., remains its host and it will take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the University Area Community Development Center, 14013 N. 22nd Street, 33613.
The 2017 African Hope Expo is a multi-African fundraiser that will feature live entertainment, beginning
DAVID M. SAWANETH
Founder and CEO of Teneba’s Haven, Inc.
The headquarters are now located in Tampa.
The fundraiser will serve the dual purpose of benefitting the disadvan- taged people in African countries, as well as offering insight in the many cultures of those countries.
Sawaneh said, “It is with humil- ity and gratitude that our organiza- tion is able to host the African Hope Expo 2017. This event not only bene- fits those in my country of origin, but also the many other African nations participating in the Expo. In addition, the community benefits from the health fair incorporated within the event.
“This is an opportunity to experi- ence Africa vicariously through many Africans willing to share their lives and experience with the Tampa Bay community and generously support those in desperate need in Africa and beyond.”

at 1 p.m. There will be African Arts & Crafts, Caricature Artist and face painters, and other events including raffles. The event will also feature food and other types of vendors offer- ing art, clothing, jewelry and other items from respective countries.

included on the agenda. Representatives from the Vet-
eran’s Administration, Insurance In- dustry, and other health organizations will attend the event.
