Nancy Espie-Underwood’s hard work has paid off.
CALIFORNIA — Nancy Espie-Underwood is at the top of her game as an owner of a construction com- pany. She is the first Black woman in the state of Cali- fornia to receive a General Engineering Contractors Class A license in 1992.
And her work with the Small Business Administra- tion in the 1990s has led to her securing a $27 million contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
That substantial contract put her company in prime
position to be in charge of re- moving contaminated diesel tanks and installing above- ground storage tanks and in- tegrated monitoring systems at runway checker boxes.
Underwood General Engi- neering & Environmental Consultant Services also did this installation on the run- ways of every airport gov- erned by the FAA in California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii and Amer- ican Samoa. She went on to win contracts with the U.S. Department of State that took her company global.
