RAY WILLIAMS
MINISTER DURELL S. BROWN
Minister Durell S. Brown of Tampa, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted Sat- urday, December 15 a 1 p. m. at Word of Grace and Truth Min- istries, 3001 E. Hanna Ave., Dr. Thomas Dozier, Pastor, with Pastor Millie Stephenson, offi- ciating, and Pastor Vincent Campbell, eulogist. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Me- morial Park Cemetery.
Minister Durell S. Brown was a native of the beautiful is- land of New Providence, Ba- hamas and a resident of Tampa, FL for many years. Durell was Christened at Grants Town Wesley Methodist Church. He received his early education at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, Nas- sau Christian Academy School, CI Gibson Junior High School and R M Bailey Senior High School. Durell furthered his education in the U. S. A. by at- tending Tampa University, where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Ac- counting with honors.
Durell was a Pastor and loved to mentor people. He worked in the hospitality in- dustry, particularly at major hotel chains, most of his adult life.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Lionel Brown and godfather, Thomas Fergu- son.
Left to celebrate the life of a Christian man are: wife, Dar- lene Brown; daughter, Amani Brown; mother, Naomi Brown; brothers, Brockholst, Garret, McCoy, Jason and Don Brown, all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; adopted brothers, Mark A. Turnquest and Nataniel Moss; sisters, Shanla Cleare, Vanessa Brown and Mona Brown; uncle, Maxwell Brown; aunts, Eddison (Eddy) Francis, Iris Smith, Clara Evans, Subleecka Thompson, Sonia Challow and Ella Johnson; nephews, Gio- vianni Brown, Taimak and Deangelo Cleare, Garvin Adderley and Jason Brown, Jr.; nieces, Garinique Brown, Shenique Cleare, K’leigha Stra- chan and Carlena Canion; brother-in-law, Carl Canion; sisters-in-law, Glenda Brown, Renetta Larry (Mark) and Tamara Hightower; and a host of dear cousins; godmother, Clara Evans; godbrother, Tommy Williams; and other relatives and friends.
The remains will repose after 5 p. m. Friday, December 14 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue.

MRS ELLA MAE MILLS-LOCKETT
Mrs. Ella Mae Mills-Lockett of Tampa, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018. Funeral serv- ices will be conducted Saturday, December 15, at 2 p. m. at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, FL 33610, with Rev. Dr. H. L. Daniels, officiating. Inter- ment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Lockett was a native of Tampa and resided in Detroit, MI for five years before moving back to Tampa and residing for a total of 88 years. She attended Dobyville School in Tampa and graduated from Detroit Interme- diate School in Detroit and was a member of New Friendship Mis- sionary Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. H. L. Daniels, Pastor.
She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Edward M. Mills, Jr., and David L. Mills; daugh- ters, Barbara J. Mills Hawkins (Rubin), Linda S. Mills (Mia), and Glennie Mae Ware; grand- children, Jimmie L. MRS. ALTAMEASE GARDNER NICKSON
Mrs. Altamease Gardner Nickson, of 3911 W. Cherry St., Tampa, Florida, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018. Funeral services will be con- ducted Saturday December 15, at 11 a. m., at First Baptist Church of West Tampa, 1302 N. Willow Ave., Tampa 33607, with Reverend Dr. Rayford Harper, Pastor, officiating. In- terment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mrs. Nickson was a native of Pierce, Florida in Polk County, where she accepted and served Christ at an early age. Upon moving to Tampa 66 years ago, Altamease joined First Baptist Church of West Tampa, where she worshipped and served Christ faithfully until her pass- ing. Altamease’s early educa- tion was in the schools of Polk Country where she graduated from Union Academy in Bar- tow, FL (1942).
Altamease then attended Florida A & M College (FAMC), where she earned a B. S. degree in Home Economics and Chem- istry (1946). While attending FAMC, Altamease was an out- standing varsity basketball player on the “Baby Rattlers” team. She completed her for- mal education by earning her M. S. in Early Childhood Educa- tion (1977) from the University of Tampa. Mrs. Nickson was a stay-at-home mom until 1955.
Altamease began working part time as a realtor for Phase I of Progress Village and as a Consultant for the Carnation Milk Company. Her first teach- ing job was at Williston School in Williston, FL. She began teaching in Hillsborough County first as a substitute, later becoming a Home Eco- nomics teacher at Glover in Bealsville (near Plant City), where she taught for many years. She then left the class- room to become a Head Start Coordinator of Parent Educa- tion, and a Parent Involvement
Specialist for Project Follow Through. Both Head Start and Project Follow Through were federally funded programs within the Hillsborough County School System.
During her tenure as a Par- ent Involvement Specialist she motivated many parents to be- come classroom aides, and many paraprofessionals to re- turn to college to earn teaching degrees. Among other suc- cesses in her career as a Parent Involvement Specialist, she was awarded a grant which was used to increase fathers’ involvement in the education of their chil- dren.
In 1995, Altamease retired from the School District of Hills- borough County, Florida. Al- tamease was a lifelong member (72 years) of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, after being inducted while in atten- dance at FAMC. She was a Char- ter member of Nu Upsilon Zeta Phi Beta Chapter (1987) of Tem- ple Terrace, FL.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Reginald E. Nickson; mother, Idella Gard- ner; father, Cuffie Gardner; brothers, James, Clarence, Arthur, Eli, Charles, Sammie, Sylvester, Moses and Edmond Gardner; sisters, Marie Walker, Rebecca Izard, Brenda Gardner and Susie Friar.
She leaves to cherish her memory: 4 children, Jacqueline Cotman (Dr. Earl), Victor Nick- son, Dr. Reba McKinney, and Reginald Nickson, Sr.; 12 grand- children, Kim Welch (Corey), Altamease Nickson-Green, Lestra Foster (Montaque), Olivia Young (Kevin), Reginald Nickson, Jr., Ashley Page, Kellen McKinney (Annamarie), Tristan Smith, Reeche Spear- man, Chelsea Schon, Sotchil Cotman, and Nicholas Nickson; great grandchildren, Deja McK- inney, Terry Bell, Diamond Bell, Emerald Bell, Jaia Young, Kierra Welch, Xenia Welch, Sara Jolly, Harmony Schon, Is- abella Nickson-Green, and Ari Nickson; great-great grand- child, Jaslene Bell; sisters, Bar- bara Faison and Thillian Funnye; special nephew, Sam- mie Gardner, III, as well as a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p. m. Fri- day, December 14th at First Baptist Church of West Tampa, 1302 N. Willow Ave., Tampa 33607.

       PRINCE DERRICK T. JAMES, JR.
Prince Derrick T. James, Jr., of Tampa, passed away Wednes- day, December 5, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted Satur- day, December 15, at 2 p. m. at 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th Street, Reverend Thomas Scott, Pastor, officiat- ing. Interment will follow in Or- ange Hill Cemetery.
Derrick was a lifelong native of Tampa, Florida. He was pre- ceded in death by his grandfa- ther, James Dowling.
Life without our precious son will be hard, Derrick was our everything and we loved him dearly. We will always remem- ber the precious, amazing mem- ories he has left to include: bath-time and watching Sponge Bob. He will be remembered as the happiest baby ever and it was a blessing to have him in our lives.
He leaves to cherish his pre- cious memory: his parents, mother, Jaynecia Dowling and father, Derrick T.
