Tampa Man Passes After Lengthy Illness

MRS. LUCY KATE BYRD-BROOKTER
We, the family of Mrs. Lucy Kate Byrd-Brookter, would like to express our gratitude to the Tampa Bay community.
Thank you for all the calls, prayers, flowers, food, and all other kind acts during this bereave- ment period.
A Tampa native, Mr. Henry Harvey Holton, 73, passed after a lengthy illness. Mr. Holton was at Kindred Hospital at the time of his death on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
A Tampa native, Mr. Holton, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel (Lillian) Holton.
He attended local schools and served in the U. S. Air Force.
He returned home and became a long dis- tance truck driver, using the CB handle, “The Kickin Chicken,” for several years. Later, Mr. Holton worked for HART as a bus driver on various routes throughout Hillsborough County.
After developing congestive heart failure, Mr. Holton was forced into early retire- ment.
He is survived by his children, step chil- dren, grandchildren, 9 siblings, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Former Educator Dies Of Cancer
A popular educator who was well known in both Hillsborough and Brevard Counties died last Wednesday. Mr. Karl White was a Science teacher for several years at Sligh Middle School.
Funeral services for Mr. White, 68, will take place on Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m., at Christ the King Church, 6030 N. U. S. High- way 1, in Melbourne.
A native of Mobile, AL, Mr. White at- tended Mobile Junior College. He earned his B. S. degree from Alabama State University. He also completed 30 semester hours to- wards a Master’s Degree in Education. His career as an educator spanned 40 years.
He retired in 2009, but continued to teach math to students taking the GED test in Bre- vard County.
Mr. White launched his teaching career at Sligh Jr. High School in 1970, and re- mained there until 1995, when his family re- located to Brevard County.

Tampa Man Drowns In Pond
On Wednesday at 8:25 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies reported that Van Murray, 47, got into a pond at 2821 Lakeside Commons Drive to retrieve a remote control boat he was using.
Shortly after entering the water, deputies said Murray went under. Someone pass- ing by called authorities, and a dive team responded and found his body.
Murray had been living in the apartment complex with his mother, officials said.
No other information has been released at this time.
