One in a series of CLEW (Community & Law Enforce- ment Workshops) will take place during a 2-day span. The workshop is designed to create a better relationship between law enforcement and the com- munity it serves.
The Workshop will take place at the Rivers of Life Church Ministries, 301 N. Lakewood Drive, Brandon, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, June 26th and Tuesday, June 27th. Individuals planning to attend the workshop must pre-register no later than Wednesday, June 21st.
The workshop will focus on working toward a greater intercultural understanding with law enforcement. Partic- ipants will engage in open di- alogue with members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, share their concerns, provide suggestions and ex- plore recommendations for moving forward.
County Commissioner Les Miller, Jr., said, “This is a continuation of the work- shops that we have had to dis- cuss the relationship between law enforcement and the com- munity, to get a better under- standing so that the community can understand the thought process of law en- forcement and law enforce- ment can understand the thought process of the com- munity.
“We want everyone to get on the same sheet of music so that we don’t have some of the other communities around the country have experienced, es- pecially between law enforce- ment and African Americans and other minorities.”
Fred Hearns, Manager of the CLEW Program said,
LES MILLER, JR. Chairman, Hillsborough County Commissioners
ERNEST CONEY, JR. President, CEO of CDC of Tampa, Inc.

“The workshop is free and open to anyone in the commu- nity who wants to attend. You don’t have to live in Brandon to attend. The dinner is com- plimentary. We just want the people to come out and share their opinions.”
The workshops are spon- sored by the Hillsborough County Board of County Com- missioners, United Way Sun- coast, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsborough County Public Schools, and the CDC of Tampa, Inc., (Cor- poration to Develop Commu- nities of Tampa, Inc.), sponsors the CLEW Program.
