Is Windows 10 Worth the Effort?
Eric Hall, A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Technician Comptech PC of Tampa
y now you have probably realized by the constant pop-ups, Microsoft in-
tends on replacing all previous versions of their operating sys- tem with Windows 10. Win- dows 10 is a free upgrade for all legitimate users of windows 7. Microsoft has continued to stress however, this is just a grace period. At some point you may have to pay for Win- dows 10. The operating system is already running on over 300 million devices. But is it worth it to upgrade to Windows 10?
Windows 10 offers a new browser, Microsoft Edge which is a faster, smoother running browser compared to Mi- crosoft Explorer. Due to new advances in browser coding, including HTML5, Microsoft has fulfilled a void by keeping up with the Jones by introduc-
ing Edge. Hopefully, at some point we won’t need Adobe Flash.
Windows 10 also features a new digital assistant called Cortana, similar to Siri on the iPhone. Cortana is great at quickly finding information on the web such as the weather, funny articles and just about any questions you want to ask. Microsoft has boasted Cortana has already answered over six billion questions since the launch of Windows 10.
As far as looks, there is more great news. The start menu has returned which makes it a lot easier to navigate over Win- dows 8. In case you are won- dering, no, there is no Windows 9. The reviews for Windows 10, so far have been overwhelmingly positive. Many popular tech magazines have praised Microsoft for launching Windows 10, re- gardless of waiting 30 years for the best operating system to date. Microsoft reasoning be-
hind Windows 10 is to make it accessible across all platforms, laptops, desktops and tablets, etc.
But everyday users should still be mindful of driver issues with older devices. The blue screen of death is still a recur- ring issue. Most printers man- ufactured in the last two-three years should not be a problem, but older printers, label ma- chines, etc. may not be com patible with Windows 10.
One of my favorite features of Windows 10 is the virtual desktop, by clicking the task view button on the task bar you are able to see all your apps in the background. You can also have multiple virtual desktops running at the same time.
Windows snap is also a cool feature, just drag an app to any side of your screen and the app will fill in the space. Wi-Fi Sense connects your private Wi-Fi to any trusted Wi-Fi, ex- ample, your friends Wi-Fi con- nection across the street.
As mentioned before Mi- crosoft continues to warn users the operation will not be free for much longer. If you are comfortable with Windows 7, the transition is pretty painless and Windows 10 is worth a night’s download. If you don’t have the itch right now, you can always download it and save on a flash drive has an ISO file.

erhaps, the most unsettling comment ever made about what it means to be a dad was made by neu- rologist Sigmund Freud when he wrote, “I cannot
think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.” Think about it. Does that statement say it all? For every man who has ever held a baby in his arms, looked down into the eyes of that child and said where only he, the father could hear, “This is my child . . . to protect with my life,” the significance of that statement is both confirming as well as convicting.
For, it explains exactly what a man at Disney World was thinking when he tried heroically to free his two-year-old son from an alligator’s death grip. It puts words to the agony of those fathers whose sons and daughters had their lives snuffed out in an Orlando dance hall in consequence of a lunatic’s deadly sexual schizophrenia, and it more than portrays the numbing horror of a father whose little girl who loved to sing, will never sing again because her father was not present to protect her from a homicidal monster who shot her while she was signing autographs.
What does it mean to be a dad beyond the cigars, pats on the back, and statements of congratulation? In these days, it means realizing that we, who are fathers cannot always protect the ones we love. It means we who would love to see ourselves as perfect would be the first to admit our im- perfection begins when our first child is born.
Yet, we struggle to fulfill Freud’s challenge. We clam- ber to become friends, supporters, debaters, defenders, and when all else fails, we bend our knees and pray for love and divine guidance, believing that a father’s rescue is never too late.
So, forgive us if our Father’s Day greeting comes a little late. But remember: Father’s Day (like Mother’s Day), is every day.
School Is Never Out
pay the best to recruit the best because they want to be the best and you should too. So al- ways work to be the best at what you do.
Intellect, Innovations and Increase. These three go hand in hand. Increasing your intellect increases your analy- tical perspective and cognitive development to create innova- tive solutions to problems. When you solve other people’s problem they will pay you for their peace and the productiv- ity you bring to their life.
School is never out for those that want to continuously de- velop in awareness of them- selves, their abilities, their higher level of consciousness and being, their skills, talents, potential, earning power and quality of life.

mpowered Greet-
ings. Welcome to the first week of summer vacation for the kids and although school is out, in all actuality SCHOOL IS NEVER OUT! School is never out for the in- dividual that wants to see change in their life. Every day is a day of learning, so school is never out. Every day is a day to expand your mind and your thought processes, therefore, school is never out. Every day is a day to broaden your hori- zons, hence forth, school is never out. Every day is a day to read something new. If you keep on learning there’s op- portunity to keep on earning more and more and more above and beyond what you could imagine, so conse- quently, never let school be out for you.
Here are a few ways you
can benefit when school is never out for you.
The more you know, the more you grow. The more you grow the more susceptible you become to adapting to change. Those who can adjust to change in work environ- ments, family environments, social environments or any other environment enhance their ability to succeed in the weakest or strongest environ- ment or economy.
Perfect your perform- ance. It’s in the details. Learning as much as possible about what you don’t know helps you to perfect what you do know. Perfecting your skills and your knowledge base po- sitions you to operate with peak performance. When you have high performance, you position yourself to become in high demand. Organizations
NRA: The Tail That Wags The Dog
ometimes, eyesight is less than “20-20.” Take the
NRA, for instance. Though the National Rifle Asso- ciation claimed it had more than 5 million members in 2014, and has been one of our Nation’s most successful and influential advocacy groups on both state and federal gun making laws. Yet, they represent less than 7 percent of 73 to 81 million adult gun enthusiasts.
In fact, the exact NRA membership is in question ac- cording to several studies, one which indicates NRA mem- bership revenues (those included in the NRA tax filing) dropped by $47 million following the Sandy Hook mas- sacre.
However, if such is true, then why do the remaining 240 million adult Americans refuse to fess up and insist that Congress put a ban on the sale of AK47s and numerous other weapons of war that can be bought over the counter?
One survey said although 81 million Americans are gun owners, most of them do not hold NRA membership nor agree with the NRAs philosophy on gun ownership.
Therefore, we are at a loss to understand why the NRA opposes requiring background checks for private and gun show sales. Furthermore, what rationales do NRAers use to oppose a ban on military assault style weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines? The inferences are past exasperation and border on just plain stupid.
It is now past the time for sensible voters to demand that their Senators and Repre- sentatives pass legislation that requires psychological testing, licensing, and background checks for ALL gun purchases.
After all, we require fishing licenses, so, why not demand similar regulations for so- called gun sportsmen? How many more people must die before America comes out of the OK Corral?
