Residents Sought For Diversity Advisory Council
Police Seek Information In Shooting Death Of Tampa Man
Hillsborough County is seek- ing interested residents to serve on the Diversity Advisory Council. Applications must be submitted by July 28, 2017.
There are currently 12 posi- tions open on the Council. Eleven positions have two-year terms and one position has a one year term. Positions are specified as individuals from the following categories: African-American; At-Large; Caribbean; Far East Asian; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgen- der; Hispanic/Latino; Indian Asian; Middle Eastern; North- ern and Southern European; People with Disabilities; and Native American (two posi- tions).
Citizens interested in being considered for appointment must submit: an essay of 200- 500 words highlighting what your goals would be as a mem- ber of the Diversity Advisory Council and state why you are most suited to carry forth those goals; a completed Question- naire for Diversity Advisory Council and a Standards of Conduct Form.
All questions must be an- swered. Applicants declining to submit an essay will be elimi- nated from further considera- tion.
All nominees must reside in and be registered voters in Hillsborough County. Appoint- ments are voluntary positions and members serve without compensation. The terms will
begin on September 1, 2017 until August 31, 2019. One term ends August 31, 2018.
The Council was created to facilitate communication be- tween Hillsborough County government and diverse popu- lations, and to address matters related to diversity that affect County government and its cit- izens.
Its members are appointed by the Board of County Commis- sioners and are comprised of two individuals from each of the categories.
The forms are available in the Commissioners’ reception area on the second floor of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa; by calling the Boards and Councils Coor- dinator at (813) 272-5826, or on the County’s website at HCFLGov.net.
Forms must be signed and dated.
Appointments will be sched- uled for a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners in August or September 2017. The Tampa Police Depart- ment is seeking information in the shooting death of a man. The shooting took place in the Grant Park area last Monday.
According to Tampa Police, last Monday afternoon, Julius R. Carter, 32, of Tampa, became engaged in an altercation with another man. The altercation took place in the 3400 block of N. Phillips Street.
At some point, the alterca- tion became physical and the suspect reportedly produced a handgun and shot Carter several times. After being shot, Carter ran and col- lapsed in the backyard at 3408 Phillips Street.
Witnesses to the shooting described the suspect as being a Black man, approxi- mately 6 feet tall, and weigh- ing about 220 pounds. He reportedly fled the scene in a gray, 4-door vehicle.
