Much like their respective careers, the Stephen Curry vs. Damian Lillard rivalry is on the rise.
And much like their respec- tive careers, it's as compelling as it was unexpected. This isn't LeBron vs. Carmelo, a jux- taposition that predates the 2003 NBA draft. It's a wel- come surprise, especially given the widespread preseason ex-
STEPHEN CURRY And DAMIAN LILLARD
pectation that Portland would struggle through a lengthy re-
build.
It also makes so much
sense. Both are point guards, on the West Coast, who spe- cialize in launching 3-pointers off the dribble. Curry plays in Oakland. Lillard's proudly from Oakland. Currently the comparison favors Curry, which might have something to do with Lillard's dislike of the perceived likeness.
After the Blazers crushed the Warriors in Portland on Feb. 20, Warriors coach Steve Kerr remarked of Lillard's 51-point performance, "He looked like Steph Curry out there." Lillard has been asked about the comparison multiple times and does not appear to enjoy it.
Observers could be forgiven if, while watching Curry and Lillard duel Sunday night in a 136-111 Warriors victory, they saw resemblances between the two. Both seized moments of the game, both rendered se- quences of spirited defense fu- tile, and both were smooth from dribble to release. The back-and-forth culminated in a brilliant third-quarter stretch, and lost steam as the Warriors collectively gained it.
In the end, Curry finished with 39 points on 20 shots (nine 3-pointers) and Lillard with 38 points on 27 shots.
Villanova Vs. North Carolina National Championship Tonight
Why North Carolina Will Win: Can the depth of the Tar Heels overcome the red hot Wildcats inside?
UNC can't shoot from three, but it just doesn't seem to mat- ter with the way the interior passing comes up with easy scores time after time through- out the tournament and through the back half of the regular season. The Syracuse 2- 3 zone is built to keep teams from being able to keep of- fenses away from the rim, but it just didn't matter with the way the Tar Heels moved the ball at will.
Fourth in the nation in as- sists, this is an unselfish and ef- ficient team that always seems able to calmly and coolly stop any run with the extra pass and the extra play. Making matters worse, Villanova just isn't good enough on the boards to slow down the waves of Tar Heels who are always around the rim – the second chance points will be huge in UNC's favor.
Why Villanova Will Win: The
Wildcat defense is playing at a whole other level right now.
Granted, shooting in NRG Stadium is an issue, but it didn't seem to bother Villanova who hit 11-of-18 while shocking the high-powered OU shooters into a 6-of-27 night. Syracuse could- n't get the outside shot to fall early against the Tar Heels, but Villanova has proven time and again that it has no problems cranking up the offense early. If it gets going right away like it did against the Sooners, this should be a shootout that does- n't slow down. Villanova can keep up the pace.
What's Going To Happen: As it turns out, North Carolina is the absolute perfect team for this particular Final Four. Again, Villanova didn't have a problem from the outside in its game, but it's asking way too much to get the same produc- tion twice in the building – es- pecially against a long and tough defense like UNC's.
Sentinel Pick: North Carolina
Adrien Broner Calls Out Floyd Mayweather, Who Laughs Off Challenge
Adrien Broner forced a questionable stoppage of Ash- ley Theophane in the ninth round of their super light- weight bout on Friday night.
The way the fight finished will be questioned, but the re- sult was never in doubt as Broner controlled the fight throughout and was up signif- icantly on the cards. After his win, Broner grabbed the mi- crophone to call out Floyd Mayweather, who promotes Theophane and had some choice words for Broner dur- ing the buildup to the fight.
“Y'all probably know this. Somebody I look up to, some- body I admire took the chance to do an interview and talk all bad about me,” Broner said. “I'm a man who learns s--- from doing physical activity, so Floyd, you've got to come see me. You gotta see me, point blank, period. I'm a man attheendofthedayandI come from the streets, the trenches. I came from nothing, water and corn flakes. I will never let another man disre- spect me. I don't care if we fight or spar."
Mayweather, standing on the ring apron, laughed off the

challenge. After the fight, he called Broner calling him out "the biggest joke of the night" and that Broner should be fo- cused on active fighters and his future after boxing.
"Today is April Fool's, so, you know, that was the biggest joke of the night," said May- weather. "I want [Broner] to continue to go out there and fight, win and what's impor- tant for Adrien is not just winning, but life after boxing. That's what's very, very impor- tant. I can remember when I was young and I didn't have a Floyd Mayweather to steer me the right way. Don't be like me Adrien, be better than me. There's so many huge fights out there, there's Ter- rence Crawford, Shawn Porter. So it's fights out there...I wish him the best."
