On Monday, a judge received a request from the Florida Bar to revoke the law licenses of three Tampa attorneys accused of arranging the arrest of a rival attorney during a trial in 2013.
Lawyers for the Bar recom- mended that Stephen Diaco, a partner at Adams & Diaco, be permanently disbarred for his role in orchestrating C. Philip Campbell’s DUI arrest in 2013.
Describing Diaco’s motives as malicious and for personal gain, lawyers for the Bar said that his actions not only inter- rupted a trial, but also tar- nished the reputation of the legal profession and the Tampa Police Department.
Diaco’s colleagues, Robert Adams and Adam Filthaut received lighter punishment
with a temporary disbarment with the opportunity to reapply for their law licenses after 5 years.
Whatever punishment is handed down by Judge W. Douglas Baird, it will be sub- ject to the Florida Supreme Court’s approval. His recom- mendation is due at the end of the month.
Last month, Judge Baird found all three attorneys guilty of arranging Campbell’s DUI arrest to gain an advantage in a multi-million dollar defama- tion lawsuit pitting their client, radio shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, against his radio rival, Todd “MJ” Schnitt. Campbell was the attorney for Schnitt.
Among those in attendance at the Awards Program were from left to right: Robert Scott, II, Parade Recipient Kelly Frame, and Howard Harris.
