Confederate Flag Supporters Host 15-Mile Road Rally
PLANTATION, FL ---- Black Lives Matter protesters con- fronted Confederate-flag sup- porters a t a Sunday rally in Broward County, Fla., refusing to stand down.
Hundreds of people sup- porting the contentious flag participated in a 15-mile road rally that extended from Plan- tation, Fla., to Sunrise, Fla., fly- ing the battle flag from their vehicles. About 100 protesters showed up to counter the rally, chanting, "Black lives matter," "Whose streets? Our streets!" Authorities kept the two groups
a safe distance apart, but pro- testers claimed that some Con- federate-flag supporters waved a gun and a knife at them.
According to the report, one demonstrator set fire to a flag. The flag was eventually tossed under the wheels of the depart- ing vehicles.
Teen Who Killed Mom, Then Threw A Party Sentenced To 28 Years
In March 2012, Kit Darrant threw a party for over 60 of his high school friends. The teens, all from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, par- tied in the apartment where Darrant lived with his mother. At one point, a student asked Darrant about a strange smell. He told her it was prob- ably the trash.
What none of the students partying that night knew was that Darrant had killed his mother with a butcher knife and left her decomposing body in a room for some eight days before it was found.
On Friday, the now-19-year- old Darrant pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of his mother, 35-year- old Renette Emile, and will spend the next 28 years in prison.
According to the newspaper, Darrant argued with his mother the night of her death. He strangled her and then, un-

sure if she was dead, grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and stabbed her over 100 times.
Darrant hid the body in her bedroom, covering it in blan- kets and laundry detergent to hide the smell of decomposi- tion. As his mom's body de- cayed in her bedroom, the then-16-year-old spent the next eight days shopping, skipping school and even throwing a party for his friends.
300 Men March To Stop The Violence Reaches D. C.
Since taking office in May, Nigerian President Muham- madu Buhari has dismissed his entire military brass and sacked key officials of the country's giant NNPC oil firm in a bid to clamp down on cor- ruption.
Marchers from Baltimore participate in 300 Men March.
BALTIMORE, MD --- Marchers coming from Balti- more as part of 300 Men March have reached the na- tion’s capital. According to the report, the group started off on Sunday and were expected to wind up at the White House as part of the initiative to raise awareness about community violence.
The group consists of just over 40 people, who started the grueling walk around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, taking some rests.
"The work to reduce violence is not going to be comfortable,
it's not going to be convenient, it's not going to be a luxury ac- tivity, but it's something that we have to do," organizer Munir Bahar said.
"We need men specifically to get off the couch, to get in- volved in these young people's lives in the community and re- ally take it as a personal thing," he added. "Take ownership of the violence. Take responsibil- ity for your own community and step into these young folks' lives; be the intervention that is needed to really guide them away from making these life- altering decisions."
Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer, churning out roughly two billion barrels of crude per day.
Nigeria's ruling party on Sunday called on the country's people to support efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari to recover billions of dollars lost to government cor- ruption and punish the perpe- trators in the graft-plagued nation.
The Nigerian National Pe- troleum Corporation (NNPC), which manages the nation's multi-billion dollar oil industry, is widely considered to be one of the most corrupt state agen- cies and Buhari has launched a probe into its activities.
Since taking office in May after being elected on an anti- graft ticket, Buhari has dis- missed his entire military brass and sacked key officials of the country's giant NNPC oil firm in a bid to clamp down on graft.
The APC said part of the stolen or unaccounted money included about 18 billion euros ($20 billion) out of 36 billion euros earned from crude oil be- tween 2012-2015 that was with- held by NNPC and 2.1 billion dollars from the excess crude account -- money to be kept aside for a rainy day. It also said 15 million dollars from a botched arms deal with South Africa was yet to be returned to Nigeria while 13 billion dollar in dividends from the exports from Nigeria of liquefied gas re- mains unaccounted for.
Buhari has slammed the state of the country's finances, claiming his predecessor had left Africa's biggest economy deep in debt and the treasury "virtually empty". The presi- dent appointed a new head of NNPC earlier this month just after sacking the entire board.
Dutch Newspaper Uses N-Word, Blackface In Book Review
Ta-Nehisi Coates’ latest book, Between the World and Me, has earned widespread praise across the U.S., with many nodding at Coates’ unfor- giving examination of race in America.
A Dutch newspaper decided that the best way to present a review of said book was to slap the headline “Nigger, Are You Crazy?” on the view, accompa- nied by images of blackface fig- ures, the Washington Post reports, sparking outage.
Following the backlash, Michel Krielaars, the editor of the book supplement for the newspaper, NRC Handelsblad, decided to take down the on- line illustrations so as not to “offend non-Dutch speakers who only read Twitter,” al- though the images can still be found online.
Krielaars told the Post in-

emails about the article that “it dealt with the persistence of racism and the continuing in- equality in the U.S. The tone of the article is pessimistic, and the illustrations, as well as the headline, were meant to reflect that. There is no racist remark to be read in the review, be- cause that is not our cup of tea.”

Nicole Rhodes’ truck was torched.
YOUNGSTOWN, OH -- Nicole Rhodes was in the process of reopening a hair salon and beauty school in a Youngstown, Ohio, building that she has owned for the last three-and-a-half years.
A few weeks ago, she says, someone, presumably a neigh- bor, left a racist letter on the building with a deadly warning: " 'Black bitch, we don't want you here,' " she says it read. " 'Don't get burnt up in there.' "
A week ago, she saw her 2006 Ford truck go up in flames. The fire is being inves-
tigated as arson.
Rhodes, 40, told the New
York Daily News that she couldn't believe this happened. "I thought it was nothing. My neighbors are prejudiced," she said. "I'm used to people hating me—but now it's because of my skin. It's the same kind of ha- tred. It's something to be ig-
nored."
Police have made no arrest
and have no leads in the case. Rhodes is now looking to sell the building and has in- stalled some 16 cameras
around the property.
