Deion Sanders, JSU Go After Five-Star Alabama Target
PETER WOODS
Just before Nick Saban ignited college football into an inferno, Deion Sanders and Jackson State offered a prospect that Alabama has in its sights.
Peter Woods, a five-star defensive lineman in the 2023 class, picked up an offer from Jackson State on Tuesday. Woods is preparing for his senior season at Alabaster Thompson High in Alabama. The offer has come rather late in the process, as players as highly-regarded as Woods is are often locked in with com- mitments at this point of the season. But Woods says the timing isn’t a problem for him.
“Jackson State offering to- wards the end of my recruit- ment does nothing to their chances,” Woods told On3.com. “They can take a seat up there right next to my Top 3/4!”
“HBCU culture is 2nd to none, and there’s something special about what Coach Prime is building there, which is why the #1 player in the ‘22 class chose them. I’ve been waiting for this offer, and feel like I would 100% gel in this program. #IBelieve!”
Woods has offers from pretty much all of the Power Five heavyweights you would expect. Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida and Alabama are thought to be the leaders, with Woods currently projected to be favoring Nick Saban and Alabama according to 247 Sports.

Headed For Franchise
Tag With Ravens?
There appears to be grow- ing pessimism about the chances of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jack- son signing a long-term con- tract with the franchise, according to new reports.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported Friday that a new deal between Jackson and the Ravens is “highly unlikely.”
A $35 million annual offer was not enough to get Jack- son to sign before the start of the 2021 season, and the quarterback market has only

become more valuable since then. The most likely out- come, according to the report, is that Jackson ends up under the franchise tag for 2023.
Drew Brees Could End Up On The No. 2 Team At Fox
With Greg Olsen getting bumped from the No. 2 team to the No. 1 team at Fox while Fox awaits the arrival of Tom Brady as the $37.5-million- per-year top analyst, Fox has an opening on its second team.
As noted by Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, that spot could go to Drew Brees.
Brees, technically em- ployed by NBC but (as Marc- hand reported on Sunday) not expected to return, wants to call games. There are no games for him to call at NBC. Fox, meanwhile, has an obvi-

ous opening.
“If Brees wants to have a
big NFL broadcasting career, this is probably going to be his best — maybe last — chance to do it,” Marchand tweeted. “Fox will not break the bank for him, but the opportunity will be there.”
