TPD’s Major Calvin Johnson Exchanges Marriage Vows
Major Calvin Johnson of the Tampa Police Department, District III, exchanged marriage vows last Wednesday at the Downtown Courthouse. His bride is the former Melissa Burnett. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Clarence Nathan, a former police officer. (Pho- tographs by Tonya Lewis)
CURED Hosts Former NFL Linebacker Johnny Rutledge

Cuddle Up and Read Every Day (CURED) will host its 7th Annual Day, Sa- turday, April 23, 2022, 10 AM-2 PM at Rowlett Park. The theme for the event is “Books Go Sports.”
CURED is a nonprofit or- ganization dedicated to get- ting elementary school children to read every day, with a focus on African Ame- rican children’s literature.
Johnny Rutledge, a Floridian, will be the special guest at the event. Born in Belle Glade, Johnny gra- duated from Glades Central Community High School and was a member of the natio- nal championship football team at the University of Flo- rida. Professionally, he pla-
yed for the Arizona Cardinals and the Denver Broncos of the National Football Lea- gue.
As an author, Johnny will read one of his children’s books. Additionally, children will be engaged in several ac- tivities including, hooping a basketball, hitting a softball, kicking a football and soccer ball, hitting a golf ball, and taking a storywalk. Each child will receive a new book.
