Devin Haney Outclasses Kambosos Once More To Retain Title
Devin Haney celebrates defeating George Kambosos of Australia on Sunday in Melbourne.
American Devin Haney remains the undisputed light- weight boxing champion after outclassing former titleholder George Kambosos, Jr. yet again in Melbourne.
Despite sustaining a cut on the right side of his face dur- ing the eighth round, the 23- year-old Haney was dominant on Sunday while claiming a unanimous points decision over the Australian.
The unbeaten American has won 29 fights, 15 of them by knockout, and has unified the WBA, IBF, WBO and the Ring lightweight belts.
Haney outpointed Kam- bosos, who claimed the four titles in an upset win over Te- ofino Lopez at Madison Square Garden last Novem- ber, in Melbourne in June when claiming the lightweight belts for the first time.
Haney proved to be the better boxer again with an- other victory over Kam- bosos, who sustained cuts under his left eye and above his right ear which left him bloodied late in the fight.
Haney’s left jab was the difference in the first fight, but he demonstrated his ver- satility when using his right hand to great effect in their second meeting.
A decisive victor, Haney was awarded a 118-109 ver- dict by one judge, while the other two rated him a 118-110 victor.

Deontay Wilder didn’t need very long to snap his losing streak.
In the first round of his bout against Robert Hele- nius on Saturday night, He- lenius thought he was on the attack by moving Wilder into the corner. But it’s almost exactly where
Wilder wanted to be. He hit Helenius with a huge right hand to the face and sent him down to the mat. Hele- nius looked stunned as he was on the ground.
"I set him up," Wilder said. "I allowed him to reach, and when he reached, I at- tacked. It was a great fight."
