Adrian Peterson’s Workout With Jameis Winston Has Bucs Coach Intrigued
Coach Dawn Staley Collects 1st National Title With Victory Over Mississippi State
DAWN STALEY
Adrian Peterson isn’t letting himself go as he con- tinues to sit on the open mar- ket. The free-agent running back apparently has been working out with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston as the fu- ture Hall of Famer looks for his next team while the 22- year-old hones his skills under center.
The two stars took a photo with Winston’s per- sonal quarterback coach George Whitfield and his conditioning coach Tim Grover in Houston.
The photo prompted re- porters to ask Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter about the workouts.
“I’ve seen Adrian Peter- son many times — one of the best running backs to ever play,” Koetter said, via
Adrian Peterson has joined Jameis Winston workouts.
ESPN, after initially being caught off guard by the photo. “I’m anxious to talk to Jameis and ask him about how his workouts went.”
The Vikings did not pick up Peterson’s option ear- lier this month, which would have paid him $18 million next season, making the 32-
year-old an unrestricted free agent. Could the Bucs have interest in the three-time rushing champ with their Pro Bowl running back Doug Martin suspended three games next season as part of a four-game PED penalty the league issued late last season?
Jays Release Melvin Upton, Jr.
MELVIN UPTON JR.
The Toronto Blue Jays re- leased outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. and placed closer Roberto Osuna on the 10- day disabled list with a back injury as the team set its 25- man Opening Day roster Sun- day.
Upton hit just .194 with three home runs and seven RBIs this spring. He homered on Saturday in the Blue Jays' 6-4 exhibition victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
The Blue Jays acquired Upton from the San Diego Padres last July. He made 41 outfield starts for Toronto after the trade and hit .196 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 57 games. He hit .256 with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs in 92 games for San Diego before the trade.
The Padres are responsible for all but $1 million of his $16.45 million salary in 2017.
Upton, 32, has 164 home runs in 12 major league sea- sons with a career batting av- erage of .243.
A'ja Wilson scored 23 points to help coach Dawn Staley and South Carolina win their first national cham- pionship with a 67-55 victory over Mississippi State on Sun- day night.
Staley made the Final Four three times as a player at Vir- ginia but never won. She also led the Gamecocks to the na- tional semifinals two years ago before losing to Notre Dame.
The victory in front of a sellout crowd came one day after the Gamecocks men's
basketball team lost in the Final Four in Phoenix.
Mississippi State had all the momentum on its side after a shocking win over UConn on Friday night that ended the Huskies' record 111-game win- ning streak.
The Bulldogs couldn't muster the same effort against their SEC rival. Morgan William, who had become the face of the tournament with the game-winner against the Huskies after a 41-point performance against Baylor, was held to just eight.
Terrell Suggs: Colin Kaepernick Is Being Blackballed By NFL Teams
Terrell Suggs and his coach have differing opinions on why Colin Kaepernick remains a free agent.
Earlier in the week, Balti- more Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said it is “intellectually lazy” for people to think Kaepernick’s con- troversial political stances are the reason the quarterback hasn’t been signed. When asked by TMZ on Thursday if
he believes
Kaeper- nick has been black- listed by NFL teams, Suggs made it clear he does not agree with Harbaugh.

Michael Irvin has been disinvited from speaking at a high school awards event in Arkansas due to a sexual as- sault investigation.
The NFL Hall of Famer was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Best of River Valley Preps All-Stars Awards on June 1, but event organizer Jason Taylor told TMZ Sports Thursday that Irvin’s case causes a “con- flict and distraction.”
Irvin, 51, has been ac- cused of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old Florida woman last week at his hotel room in Fort Lauderdale. The woman reportedly told police she began to feel sick once she and Irvin arrived at his room from a local bar, and recalled fighting him off before she awoke the next morning to

He once told his father that he was going to be a football player and a doctor, although his father told him he couldn't do both. But he did. The op- portunity to be a doctor is something he has waited for a long time.
Rolle will soon complete his education at the Florida State University College of Medicine, then start his resi- dency at Harvard Medical School on July 1.
The former Florida State football All-American safety and Rhodes Scholar is excited about starting this next chap- ter in his life. He spent a year studying at Oxford between the end of his Florida State career and the start of his NFL career, and a couple years in the NFL, but his pri- mary goal has always been to become a doctor.
