Local Movie Producer Excited About New Project
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Many of you may know Victor Young as the top executive at two major car dealerships. Now, he is pro- ducing movies.
Young, said his latest production, Stratosphere,” is coming along well and is now in post-production.
“We’re putting together the soundtrack and some other finishing touches.
“We pulled back on some of the marketing because I have two other films coming out right behind it.”
Young said when he first got in- volved with “Stratosphere,” he wanted it to be a portrayal of African Americans in a real time “right now” period of how we deal with technol- ogy and real-time continuing antago- nists.
“The film is set in a high-tech en- vironment, and it’s very powerful and leaves everyone with a great message.
“I started in 2009 producing and marketing films. Since then, I’ve done a series of shorts and commercial work, and in 2011, I did a few televi- sion pilots. I worked on marketing and distribution in 2012, shot “Stratosphere” last year, and just finished shooting “Paradise Florida” in Sarasota.
Based on the technology, that movie is already in the marketing phase. It first premiered at the Sara-
pace with the changes in technology and what people really want to see.
“You have to really be engulfed in the industry to know what people want to see. I have two companies, one of them a distribution company that does a lot of research. That’s how we find out what’s in demand and also we read the industry rags to find out how other projects are doing.
“Pitch meetings are a great way of throwing around ideas and concepts. You get great feedback that way. That’s critical to a producer.”
Looking back, Young said when he was 18 he wanted to be on televi-
sion.
“I was taking classes for commu-
nication and my cousin got me a job at Fox 28 in 1989. I also worked at other places, and worked at WTMP 1150AM radio for a couple of years. I’ve also done a lot of voice-over work.
“When the recession hit in 2008, I decided to diversify and really get into film production. We have several hundred cable networks and that means there’s a big hole to fill. Meet- ing the need with quality productions will mean nothing but success.”
Young is married to Tia Grice Young.

sota Film Festival.”
Young said he has another film
called “Crazy Lake” that’s in pro- duction now, and he prefers films that deal with the super natural, fantasy, or thriller-type projects.
“I think they all have similar char- acteristics. Next year, I’m going to start work on a romantic comedy.
“I have a lot of big things planned for the future. To be successful in this business, I’d like to raise an invest- ment fund so we can have a series of movies in production at all times. I want to take a studio approach to pro- duction.”
Young said in the movie industry, it’s always a challenge trying to keep
