It was just an ordinary Fri- day it seemed, when God de- cided to start the transitioning process for the last mile of the way for Mrs. Georgie Mae Lee-Butler. On Friday, June 5, 2015, at 4 p. m., she graciously accepted the ride from the chariot of angels that God lovingly had sent for her and completed her journey, where He re- ceived her back into Himself.
She was born November 15, 1924, to the parentage of the late Rev. Sterling Sallo- nial Washington and Mrs. Louise Walters Washington, in Orlando, FL. She was raised by her grandmother the late Mrs. Ada Green Wal- ters, and her aunt, the late Mrs. Eva Walters Alford.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She was born and raised into the Methodist faith. After being a member of Pleasant Chapel A. M. E. Church for almost fifty years, she recently joined Church of The Living God Gateway To Heaven, under the tutelage of Rev. Ruby Baker and Rev. Vick Dennis. Because of her declining health she started every Sunday off with inspi- ration from Bishop Noel Jones, Pastor Joel Olsteen, Bishop T. D. Jakes, Pastor R. A. Vernon and Pastor Corby Bush.
Ms. Georgie began her for- mal education at Saint Peter Claver Catholic School and completed her education in the Hillsborough County School System, and then went on to the Chicago School of Nursing. Ms. Georgie was married to the late Fred L. Lee, Sr., and to this union was born four children. She and Mr. Lee were the owners of several businesses throughout the Tampa Bay area from the late 1940s to the 1960s.
She later married Ernest Butler. She ended her career as a manager for Singleton Shrimp & Packing Company.
She was called by many names. She had many titles, and she wore many hats. Some called her Ms. Georgie, some called her Ms. G., and
some called her Mrs. Butler or Georgia Mae. Some of her grandchildren called her Grandma some called her Grammy. Some of her great grandchildren called her Big Mama, and some called her Sweetie! To most she was just Mama.
Although she only gave birth to four children, she mothered many. She housed, fed, clothed, nurtured, en- couraged and gave of herself unselfishly, whether it was time, talent or treasure. She was also affiliated with Uni- versal Masonic Brotherhood & Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her cousin Marian Alford Berryhill Hicks; her adopted son, Dr. Glensford L. Craig; and great-great grandson, An- thony A. Hatcher, III.
