Ms. Terrie Daniel, who was chosen as the inaugural appointee of Assistant Vice President of Supplier Diver- sity said, “I hope to increase the utilization of diversity suppliers by creating a plat- form of economic develop- ment in the Tampa Bay Area.
“We will host USF’s Di- versity Day on October 6th and I am looking forward to hosting at least 100 suppliers from throughout the com- munity. It will be a really great opportunity to meet with the business commu- nity.”

Community Activist Angered By Political Blog’s Misquotes
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Ms. Dianne Hart said she was recently contacted by a reporter and asked questions about her political future. However, Ms. Hart said when she saw the arti- cle, she became angry be- cause she was misquoted, her comments were taken out of context, and she never made a statement attributed to her in the article.
The article stated in part, that State Representa- tive Sean Shaw would face Ms. Hart again when he seeks re-election.
In a written response to the author, Mitch Perry, of FloridaPolitics.com, Ms. Hart said, “I am not a candidate, I am a private cit- izen at this point. What you wrote in your article is not what we discussed. I do not appreciate you lumping two stories together. You never asked me about the removal of the monument.”
Ms. Hart told the Sen- tinel, “At no time did we ever discuss the monument. It does matter to me as an

Black woman. What’s hurt- ful to me about that Confed- erate monument is that as African American child, I lived through that ugly part of our history. I know what it was like going in back- doors and colored rest- rooms.
“I stand beside Com- missioner Les Miller, Jr., State Rep. Sean Shaw, and any other leader who wants to remove such monuments as this one.”
During the last election, Rep. Shaw defeated Ms. Hart, a first-time candi- date, by 101 votes. However,
she disputes claims that she plans on challenging Rep. Shaw next year.
Ms. Hart said, “Though I thank the reporter, Mitch Perry and publisher Peter Schorsch for their thor- ough correction, I am still deeply disappointed with the original coverage re- garding the non-existent issue of my criticism of Rep. Sean Shaw's in- volvement in the ongoing ef- fort to remove Confederate iconography from public land in Hillsborough County.
“As a Black woman who lived through Jim Crow and the Civil Rights movement, and who has fought for so- cial progress all my life, I strongly agree with his opin- ion on that issue.
“Mr. Perry called to ask me about my views about Rep. Shaw's record in of- fice, with which I respect- fully disagree with on some significant points. But he did not ask me about his work on the Confederate monument issue, or any- thing about that issue in general. Yet, the ensuing headline strongly implied I expressed I was "not im- pressed" with Rep. Shaw's actions in that area.
“This manufactured con- troversy was a transparent attempt from outside our community to sow seeds of division and discord within the proud Black community in Tampa. At a time when white supremacists are demonstrating in the streets, these cheap tabloid tactics are reckless and irre- sponsible. Unity is urgent during this time in our his- tory, and we will not tolerate sleazy attempts to divide us to score political points.
“Though the term has unfortunately garnered some right-wing connota- tions within the current ad- ministration, this is 'fake news' at its very worst.”
She further said that after she contacted the au- thor of the article, the title on the article was changed and a correction was placed at the end of an updated ar- ticle.
“My phone has been con- stantly ringing because of that article and I resent being misquoted,” she said.
