The Tampa Bay Area Jaguars are partnering with the Brandon Bears, East Tampa Ti- tans, and Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation depart- ment to host the first “Stop The Violence” Classic and col- laborative event on July 16, 2022, to help raise awareness about the violence in the com- munity.
Gerald Scott, the presi- dent of the Bay Area Jaguars, wants the community to partic- ipate in youngsters’ lives. He has been coaching football and baseball for the last 30 years in East Tampa.
Scott coaches children from age 4 to 15. The children playing on Saturday will be seven and eight years old.
“I was once one of these kids that needed direction and I want to help break that cycle. I felt the call to give back. There is nothing better than seeing students I worked with return with their families.”
Scott encourages people to join the movement towards peace and away from gun vio- lence in our communities.
“These kids idolize musi- cians and athletes. When they are young like our kids, they are still impressionable. If we can show them that drugs and violence will affect them, that they will not be able to play the sports they love, they will lis- ten.”
The Jaguars will have the support of several people and organizations, including State
Rep. Dianne Hart, Hills- borough County Commis- sioner Gwen Myers, Mann’s Finest Barbershop, Florida Premier Youth Football, and Florida Elite Football and Cheer.
The event will be a fun- filled outing and attendees will hear from special speakers, enjoy music, and food.
“Sometimes it is hard to reach kids once they reach their teen years.
The event will be held at Progress Village Park, 8701 Progress Blvd., Tampa, FL, 33619. Call 813-919-7967 for more in- formation. The event is free.
Schedule for the event:
11:00 a.m. – Tampa Bay Jaguars vs. East Tampa Titans; 12:30 p.m. – Community Leaders and Supporters; 1:30 p.m. – Tampa Bay Jaguars vs. Brandon Bears.
