Help For Summer Sniffles
If you’ve caught a summer cold, start eating yogurt. Just 8 oz. daily revs your immune system, which will help you recover faster.
P.S. Make sure the yogurt has active cultures.
Medicinal Benefits Of Sea Buckthorn Oil
There is always a new super ingredient popping up in the beauty trends. The latest is called sea buckthorn oil. Its me- dicinal uses have been known for centuries in the Chinese and Swedish cultures, probably be- cause the plant it is produced from grows in cool environ- ments such as Sweden and the Himalayas. This tiny yellowish- orange berry is smaller than a blueberry but has 12 times the amount of vitamin C in an or- ange! The sea buckthorn berries are also rich with antioxidants, vitamins E and A, as well as Omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids. Pretty much this is a magical fruit!
The oil extracted from this fruit is great for the skin, and can even be eaten for internal health benefits as well. Here are three health benefits:
Weight Loss. Research has shown that the sea buckthorn berries have the ability to pre- vent the storage of excess fat, therefore assisting in weight loss.
Elimination. The high Omega-7 fatty acid content of this fruit comes with anti-in- flammatory benefits that assist with keeping your bowels the perfect healthy consistency, pre- venting bloating and elimina- tion discomfort.
Clear Skin. The vitamins in this fruit work to heal the skin from the inside out, calming it to help keep it clear. Some of the skincare benefits you can expect from this fruit are moisture re- tention, skin repair (scarring/sun damage), a boost of collagen production, aging prevention and glowing skin. It reduces redness as well as burn- ing and itching that can occur.
Dehydration Can Affect Anyone, Especially...
While it can happen any time, dehydration – not having enough fluid in your body – occurs more often when temper- atures increase during summer months.
The following groups are at an increased risk for dehydration. If this includes you or someone you care for, fill up on flu- ids for optimal health!
Children: Little ones are the most susceptible to dehydra- tion. The smaller you are, the more quickly you sweat out water and important minerals like electrolytes. Infants and children also are more prone to diarrhea and vomiting, which cause the body to lose liquids more quickly. Some symptoms to look for are a child who seems less active than normal, hasn’t had a wet diaper for three hours or more, or doesn’t have tears
when crying.
Aged Adults: The older we
get, the more difficult it is for our bodies to store fluids and adapt to changes in tempera- ture. We also tend to take more medications and eat less as we age, which increases the risk of dehydration. Keep water handy and drink before you are thirsty to keep symptoms at bay.
Individuals With Chronic Conditions Or Ill- ness: Those with chronic con- ditions such as uncontrolled
diabetes, kidney dis- ease and heart failure may be at risk of dehy- dration. Even the com- mon cold, a fever or the flu can cause fluid levels to go too low. Make sure you’re drinking a surplus of water if you are taking medication of any kind
or aren’t feeling well.
Outside Exercisers Or Workers: Don’t let dehy- dration ruin your day in the sun! If you are in the heat for ex- tended periods of time, make sure you drink more fluids than the amount you sweat out. If you don’t, you have a greater chance of suffering heat exhaus- tion, heat stroke, seizures, coma and even death. Munch on ice cubes or swig H2O or a sport drink with electrolytes every 15 minutes to keep yourself feeling
in top shape.
