CURED Hosted 7th Annual Event: ‘Books Go Sports’
The recent 7th Annual Cud- dle Up and Read Every Day (CURED) event provided all generations present a chance to reflect on the power of writ- ten words in literature. The older generation affirmed this truth while the younger gener- ation imagined a world they are just beginning to see and understand through books.
For hours, little boys and girls visited station after sta- tion learning, playing, and un- derstanding the importance of reading, as volunteers an- swered their questions and guided them through the vari- ous activities.
Using the theme, “Books Go Sports,” one of the major highlights of the program was having guest author, Johnny Rutledge, former NFL line- backer, read his book, Grant’s Sports Adventures: Math & Football, as the children read
along using their own copy of the book. Following the read- ing, each child’s book was per- sonally autographed by Mr. Rutledge.

catered to the young readers who came. The diversity of ac- tivities kept the children en- gaged while making sure they understood the value and im- portance of reading. All vol-
unteers pitched in to make sure everything was done with excellence. In fact, leaders of another local youth organiza- tion, also at the park that day, introduced themselves to the
CURED staff following the event’s conclusion. They noted the active participation and orderly way the event was conducted and inquired about CURED’s goals and objectives. Their desire is to partner with CURED at future events.
All in all, many guests and participants indicated their desire to attend future events to support the CURED initia- tive.
CURED, Inc., a nonprofit organization that encourages elementary school children to read every day, is grateful to the community and sponsors for the support received to- ward this event.
