Members of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church will host a celebration this weekend in honor of a trio of accomplishments. The church is celebrating its 90th Anniver- sary, its Mortgage Burning, and Cornerstone Installation Ceremonies.
The combined celebration will take place on Sunday, Feb- ruary 22nd, at the church. The church is located at 5001 Cum- berland Drive.
Reverend Beverly Lane, Senior Pastor of the church said, “We are inviting the entire community to come join us in our celebration. We will have a morning and

evening service in honor of these achievements.”
Reverend Dr. Jimmie J. Thompson, Presiding Elder, Lakeland Region, will deliver the 11 a.m. Message. Bishop A. J. Richardson, Presiding prelate of the 11th Episcopal District, will deliver the 4 p.m. Message.
In 1925, a group of like- minded residents came to- gether to have prayer meetings in their community. The fol- lowing year, Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Rev. J. Harri- son, came into existence. The members initially met in a West Tampa storefront build- ing.

After relocating several times, the members decided to purchase land and build a new structure in 1939. During the transition of moving into their new facility at 1012 Laurel Street, the church was re- named Bethel A. M. E. Church.
In 2004, the property was purchased by the Florida De- partment of Transportation for the expansion of Interstate 275. The church was forced to relocate and moved to a tem- porary site.
Reverend Beverly Hills Lane was appointed as the Senior Pastor in October 2004. Under her guidance, the church found its current home in December 2005.
