ALTON SMITH .....charged in shootings.
According to sources, and the manager of the Tampa Park Apartments, residents of that complex have been put on alert for retaliation in the shooting death of Zay- roone Toussaint, 25.
On Wednesday, May 26th at 2 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies re- sponded to a 9-1-1 call of a shooting at the Rivertree Landing Apartments, 5902 Trout River Drive in the Nuccio Park area.
When deputies arrived, they found one man in the parking lot with a gunshot wound, and a second man inside an apartment, dead from a gunshot wound.
Alton Demetrius Smith, 24, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, attempted first-de- gree murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Detectives said Smith al- legedly went to the residence of Christopher Riley, 21, with the intent to purchase marijuana for $210.
During the transaction, an argument began between Smith and Toussaint.
Riley, who was in a bed- room reportedly overheard the argument between Smith and Toussaint. He allegedly armed himself with a handgun and came out of his room at which time he saw Smith and Toussaint engaged in a physical con- frontation.
Detectives said Riley claims Smith was standing over Toussaint and shot him with a handgun. He also saw Toussaint fall to the floor in the kitchen. Tous- saint was pronounced dead at the scene.

said Riley shot at Smith, who was still inside the resi- dence, and the two men ex- changed gunfire.
Detectives said Smith fled through the front door into the parking lot, and Riley pursued him to the exit of the residence where they engaged in a physical confrontation.
A witness told detectives they saw Smith and Riley fighting. The witness also re- ported that Smith shot Riley. Smith then fled in his vehicle.
Detectives said Smith told them he went to the res- idence, armed with a gun, to purchase marijuana. He is being held without bond on the charges and the incident is still under investigation.
Tampa Park Manager, Yolanda Anthony, con- firmed that residents have been warned about rumors of retaliation over Tous- saint’s shooting because Smith’s family lives in the complex.
Police Captain Mike Flynn said there was some chatter with some different groups about taking some action, but now they’ve talked to the families and they both want to let every- thing end in peace.
“There were some differ- ent things going on, but it all added up to social media chatter. We feel comfortable everything will be fine for the service this weekend, and we are going to remain vigilant until everything is over.”
Gudes Funeral Home re- ported that Toussaint’s family delayed funeral serv- ices for a week to give them more time to complete arrangements,, and that there will be a service this weekend.
