Tampa To Host 44th Annual National Black Educators Conference

On Thursday, November 16th, the 44th Annual Confer- ence of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, (NABSE), will convene in Tampa. Mrs. Mary Dance,

President, and members of the Hillsborough Alliance of Black School Educators will serve as the host chapter.
The Conference will in- clude workshops, Plenary Sessions & Research Round- tables, along with guest speakers.
MS. JAHANA HAYES “2016 National Teacher of the Year”
The event will take place at the Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina, 700 S. Florida Avenue. The theme is: “Our Students: Their Lives, Their Future, Their Education Mat- ter.”

the Opening Conference are Ms. Jahana Hayes, “2016 National Teacher of the Year”; Dr. Cedrick Gray, “2015 National Alliance of Black School Educators Su- perintendent of the Year”; and Dr. Thomas Tucker, “2016 American Association of School Administrators Su- perintendent of the Year.”
The Conference will open on November 16th with the Emma L. Marshall Epps Presidential Classic Golf Tournament. It will take place at Rogers Park Golf Course, 7911 N. Willie Black Drive, beginning at 8 a.m.
The event will consist of a Continental Breakfast & Lunch, 1st and 2nd Place Awards, and door prizes. There will also be special prizes for the longest drive and the closest-to-the-pin.
A two-day workshop will take place November 17 and November 19th. The work- shops will take place at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S. Franklin Street.
During that segment of the conference, Jeff Eakins, Superintendent, Hillsborough County School District, will extend the Wel- come at the Opening Ple- nary.

workshop entitled “In- equality Outcomes No Longer Options For African American Learners.”
Robert Jackson will conduct a workshop entitled “Increasing Cultural Awareness/Effective Communication with Black and Latino Male Students.”
The sessions are open to educators, educational lead- ers, partners, and advocates.
This year, ten students will be chosen as recipients of the 44th Annual Alliance of Black School Educators Stu- dent Scholarships. One stu- dent will win a $2,000 scholarship.
In September, students were encouraged to partici- pate in the scholarship con- test. They were asked to submit a head shot and a typed statement responding to the question: “How you have been engaged in supporting your com- munity through com- munity service during your high school ca- reer?”
The students chosen as recipients of the scholar- ships will be notified and the scholarships will be pre- sented during the confer- ence.
