West Tampa Shooting Leaves Two People Injured
Couple Sentenced In $1.5 Million Tax Fraud Case
  Detectives with the Tampa Police Department are currently investigating a shooting. The incident took place Tuesday night.
According to police, offi- cers responded to the 2100 block of Nassau Street, in reference to a shooting. However, when officers ar- rived, they discovered evi- dence of a shooting. But, they did not locate the vic- tims.

During the course of the investigation, police located the two victims in the 3100 block of W. Pine Street. Both had been shot and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their injuries were consid- ered non-life threatening, police said.
The investigation is con- tinuing. No additional in- formation was available at press time.
A federal judge ordered a Riverview couple to serve prison sentences. They are accused of the theft of gov- ernment funds.
District Judge Char- lene Honeywell sen- tenced Damon Bellamy, 40, to seven years and eight months in prison. Ms. Qui- juania Williams, also 40, was sentenced to five years and three months in prison.
The court will schedule a restitution hearing to deter- mine the amount of restitu-
tion they owe to the Inter- nal Revenue Service.
According to court docu- ments, Bellamy and Ms. Williams engaged in a conspiracy to file false and fraudulent income tax re- turns using the personal identification information of unknowing third parties.
Bellamy and Ms. Williams are said to have directed the deposit of the refunds that they had ob- tained in this manner onto debit cards in their own
names and the names of others, including many family members and friends.
The conspiracy began before 2010 and continued until June 2013. The court determined that as a result of this conspiracy, Bellamy and Ms. Williams caused an actual loss to the Inter- nal Revenue Service of $1,579,567.
They attempted to col- lect over $6.3 million in fraudulent refunds.

   Trying To Save
Confused Father Who
Walked Off Boat Dock
The LaGrange Daily News reported 34-year old Jeremiah Israel drowned while trying to save his father on a fishing trip on the West Point Lake.
Officials with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources recovered the body, Monday, May 27 at ap- proximately 10:47am.
According to Sgt. Stew- art Smith, Jeremiah Is- rael and his father took a boat out Sunday evening for a fishing trip. The pair tied the boat to a bridge on Cameron Mill Road so they could sleep.
Smith told the Daily News, overnight, Israel’s father awoke and walked straight into the water. He was confused, thinking he was at home. Jeremiah im- mediately jumped into the water to save his father but never resurfaced.

This incident is being in- vestigated by the Georgia De- partment of Natural Resources.
