Each week, the Hillsbor- ough County Economic De- velopment Center hosts its 1 Million Cups Program. The purpose of the event is to offer two local entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their startups to a diverse au- dience of mentors, advisors, and entrepreneurs.
The entrepreneurs are al- lowed to prepare a 6 minute presentation, which is fol- lowed by 20 minutes of feed- back, along with a question and answer period.
The 1 Million Cups con- cept is presented in commu-
nities throughout the world and provides entrepreneurs with immediate feedback, suggestions, and connects them with the communities in which they plan to serve.
Last week, a group of stu- dents from Williams Middle Magnet School were invited to participate in the program. The event took place at the Mark Sharpe Entrepreneur Collaborative Center (ECC) in Ybor City. The students were paired in teams and provided a chance to pitch their busi- ness ideas to those in the au- dience.
The students who partici- pated in the 1 Million Cups Program were: Thushar, Katie, Kevin, Sricharan, Jasmine, Kaushik, An- jali, Sam, Ryan, Isabella, and Emelyn. All of the par- ticipates are 8th grade stu- dents at Williams.
Ms. Crystal Pruitt said “Hillsborough County recog- nizes the importance of em- powering and nurturing young entrepreneurs to valu- able resources and mentor- ship to foster a future economic prosperity.”
