Family members and friends were on hand recently for the promotion ceremony of East Tampa native Cedric Carrington. He was pro- moted to the rank of Colonel in the U. S. Army Infantry.
Brigadier General Charles Hamilton, who is also a friend of the family, of- ficiated over the promotion ceremony held at MacDill Air Force Base.
Colonel Carrington suc- cessfully commanded the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute In- fantry Regiment, at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina. In his role as Colonel, he as- sumed the position of Chief of the USSOCOM J35 Plans.
Colonel Carrington is married to retired Lt. Col. Davina McDowney Car- rington. He is the son of Mrs. Luella Carrington and the late Herbert D. Car- rington, Jr., and grandson of the late Herbert D. Car- rington, Sr.
A Tampa native, Colonel Carrington attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. After graduating from Hillsborough High School in 1989, he continued his educa-
tion at Florida A & M Univer- sity. He graduated from FAMU with a B. S. Degree in Political Science.
In 1994, he received a dis- tinguished military graduate commission as an Infantry Of- ficer in the U. S. Army. He en- tered active duty at Fort Benning, Georgia.
He attended Command and Staff College at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, where he also received a Mas- ter’s of Arts Degree in Military Studies from Marine Corps University.
He is a graduate of the In- fantry Officer Basic, Advanced and Pre-Command Courses, Airborne School, Jumpmaster Course, Ranger Course, and Combined Arms Services Staff School (CAS3).
Colonel Carrington is a life member of several organi- zations, including the National Infantry Association; 508thand 555th (Triple Nickel) Airborne Associations; Knights of Peter Claver; Hillsborough High School Alumni Association; FAMU Army ROTC Alumni Association; FAMU Marching 100 Association and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
