Board Honors Tampa Man For 20 Years As Surgical Assistant
Alliance Seeks To Unite Real Estate Surrounding USF Area
Led by former Hillsbor- ough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe, an effort is underway to transform thou- sands of acres surrounding the University of South Florida area into a vibrant district kicked off this week.
The targeted district in- cludes 25,000 acres in North Tampa, in an area that in- cludes Busch Boulevard, Bearss Avenue and Inter- states 75 and 275.
The anchors for the dis- trict are USF, Moffitt Cancer Center, Busch Gardens, Uni-

versity Mall, and MOSI. Although those institu-
tions are in close proximity, they are disconnected by six lanes of Fowler Avenue and areas of low income residents called Suitcase City.
Sharpe wants to create a place that will foster innova- tion, and a kind of place that will create and attract a highly educated workforce along with corporations and in- vestors.
Sharpe said he sees the area tied together with quality mixed used development, great retail, and eventually residential development.
The National Board of Sur- gical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is honor- ing Herbert Alonzo Cruse for 20 years as a Certified Sur- gical First Assistant (CSFA).
A milestone in his career, Cruse has maintained certifi- cation for 20 years as a CSFA and the NBSTSA is proud to honor all milestone recipients for their hard work and com- mitment to the profession.
While CSFA certification is currently non-compulsory in many states more and more state are adopting statutory re- quirements for certification of surgical first assistants. A CSFA is required to renew their certification every four years, either by submitting 75 continuing education credits or by taking the NBSTSA CSFA examination.
The NBSTSA was estab-
