KEEVON G. SMITH
Tampa Police arrested a suspect in the overnight hit and run that resulted in a shooting. After a thorough in- vestigation, officers charged Keevon Smith, 21, with leaving the scene of a crash and attempting to run over a man with his vehicle.
At 1:15 a. m., police said Smith drove through a park- ing lot inside the Broadmoor Apartments and struck a vehi- cle that belonged to Tyrone Walker, 26, and fled the scene.
Police said Walker got in- side of another vehicle and followed Smith’s vehicle on North 50th Street. He con- fronted Smith when he stopped in the roadway, and police said Smith tried to hit Walker with his vehicle while Walker was trying to exchange information with him.
Walker, who has a con- cealed weapons permit, shot at Smith while he was run- ning out of the moving vehi- cle’s way. Smith sustained a leg wound and drove to the corner of 49th Street and Diana Street and called law enforcement for help. During the investigation, officers de- termined Smith was the sus- pect in the hit and run crash. He was transported to jail after leaving the hospital and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and aggravated bat- tery with a deadly weapon.
The State Attorney’s Office will determine if charges are appropriate against Walker or if he was acting in self de- fense.
a reward of up to $3,000 for information that leads to the location and arrest of Williams.
Smith was found shot to death lying near his apart- ment in North Tampa at 10:47 p. m. Investigators re- ported initially they believed the shooting may have been drug related.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s detectives are searching for armed men they said fired a shot during a fraternity party last week near the campus of the Uni- versity of South Florida.
Deputies said the incident occurred Friday at 3:50 a. m. at the Sunridge Condomini- ums at 5014 Sunridge Palms Drive.
A group of fraternity brothers, Sigma Beta Rho, were hosting a party when there was a knock on the door. When the door was opened, witnesses reported that two men were standing
there, one of them armed with a shotgun.
No words were exchanged and the group immediately tried to close the door. That’s when the second suspect aimed the weapon at the door and reportedly fired one shot.
No one was injured in the incident, and the group was able to close the door and call 9-1-1.
The suspects were de- scribed as Black or Hispanic males in their early 20s.

reportedly set fire by George Monday morning.
Investigators reported that the Tuesday night fire was caused due to an unat- tended candle left in the rear closet of the apartment, and caused smoke and fire dam- age inside.
Investigators said that fire was not suspicious as power had been removed from the building after the previous fire and it is likely someone with access to the building was using the candle for light.
Additional damage to the building as estimated to be $1,000.
Jury selection in the mur- der trial of a Tampa man is scheduled to begin on Mon- day. He is accused of fatally injuring a student during an armed robbery.
