The Tampa Police De- partment is currently search- ing for individuals interested in a career in law enforce- ment. In an effort to help those who cannot afford to attend the training, the de- partment is offering scholar- ships.
Applicants are required to absorb the cost of training while attending the Academy. In many cases, applicants find it difficult to continue to remain employed while in the Academy. To combat that problem, those individu- als who are selected will be hired as civilian employees and will be paid $19.50 an hour. They will also be pro- vided with full benefits while

in the Academy.
Police Chief Brian
Dugan said, “Providing an hourly wage and benefits to Police Cadets allows them to focus entirely on their educa- tion in the Police Academy
without the added pressure of employment from other means.”
Individuals interested in a career in law enforcement can apply for the Police Re- cruit Scholarship Program. The department wants to in- vest in candidates who have no prior law enforcement certification. Those selected will receive their training in the local Police Academy. Through the Scholarship Pro- gram, the Cadets will be pro- vided with uniforms, books, and equipment.
Anyone interested in ap- plying for the scholarships must do so by Saturday, Oc- tober 31, 2020. To learn more about the minimum require- ments, prospective Cadets should visit www.tam- pagov.net/PoliceRecruit.
