Native Trinidadian Brings Island Taste To Hair Care

Renee Donaldson, owner of Hair Haven Hair Salon, faced a tough situa- tion during COVID. Her pre- ferred brand of hair care products, the line that worked so well on her clients, went out of business due to the pandemic.
Determined to ensure that she would always have exemplary hair care products for her clients, the Trinidad- born Donaldson began ex- ploring ways to develop her own hair care line.
Working with the same manufacturer from the old company, Donaldson de- veloped an island-inspired line called Island Gyal Hair Care, that invokes the easy, breezy Caribbean atmos- phere. Using ingredients such as nettle, coconut, and agave, Donaldson gives natural hair strength, shine, and manageability. She of- fers different types of sham- poo and conditioners for a wide range of issues. Her salon has always been treat- ment based and she has carefully created products that improves the health of the hair.

Donaldson states that she didn’t have the easiest life growing up. She sees her hair care line as a way to pro- vide a future for her three precious children.

gives scholarships and sup- port young people. Helping children is very important to me.”
Donaldson has worked with Guardian Ad Litem and the foster care system to pro- vide hair care to foster care children.
“Bringing them into the salon for some special TLC is so special. I want to do as much as I can to support them,” Donaldson empha- sized.
