College Student Dies After Family Says He Was Repeatedly Hazed
A 20-year-old Black college student has died following what his family said was a fra- ternity hazing incident in Cali- fornia late last week. Police are investigating the death and are considering hazing as a possi- ble factor.
Tyler Hilliard, 20, who would have become a junior with an engineering major at the University of California Riverside, lost his life after pledging Alpha Phi Alpha fra- ternity, the young man’s family said. The African-American fraternity has a firm anti-haz- ing policy, defining hazing as “illegal and a crime in most ju- risdictions,” according to its website. “Pledging has been of- ficially abolished as a means of obtaining membership in Alpha Phi Alpha, and pledge ‘lines’ have been officially abol- ished by the fraternity,” the APA statement also said.
Hilliard began pledging the fraternity and participating in activities in July, his family said. The young man was al- legedly pushed into eating an entire onion drenched in hot sauce and had to drink a lot of water. He also was allegedly paddled with a cactus, ABC- owned KABC reported.
The young man, who had no medical problems, was re- cently treated at a hospital for breathing issues before he was released, his family said. How-

ever, things took a tragic turn when after fraternity pledges took part in a strenuous run on Saturday night that ended with him being rushed to the hospi- tal. He was later pronounced dead.
UC Riverside released a statement and its condolences. The school has offered support to the young man’s family and counseling services to the cam- pus community. The university is working with its police de- partment to determine the of- ficial cause of Hilliard’s death. Police are waiting on the result of an autopsy, according to KABC.
“A mother should never have to bury a child like that. He’s only 20. He hasn’t even begun to live his life. He had a bright future ahead of him,” said Hilliard’s mother, Myeasha Kimble, according to CBS Los Angeles.
Racist Trolls Created Fake Kaepernick Nike Coupons Giving Discounts To 'People Of Color'
The racism-flavored white tears have reached both a new flow and a new low in the cir- culation of fake Nike coupons. Following online temper tantrums and the viral de- struction of Nike goods in the wake of the company's naming of Colin Kaepernick as its new face, fake Nike coupons have surfaced advertising spe- cial discounts for "people of color," USA Today reports.
Originally found on 4Chan, a message board notorious for being a safe space for racist trolls, the ersatz coupon prom- ises to give 75 percent off of Nike merchandise to people of color.
Text on the fake coupon states Nike issued them "to show solidarity with the things we believe in." Of course, the word "solidarity" was mis- spelled on several versions of the coupon.
Another, similar coupon promised to give 80 percent off of products aimed at "urban youth" in celebration of the Kaep news, according to
VICE.
They. Tried. It.
The coupon even had a
barcode, which came up as "invalid" when a USA TODAY reporter had it scanned at a Washington, D.C. area Nike store. Wow. Nike has sent an alert to all of its U.S. retail lo- cations, warning them to be aware of the sketchy coupons.
Jack Gillis, executive di- rector of the Consumer Feder- ation of America, believes this attempt goes far beyond just a scam.
"I wouldn’t characterize
this as a scam, but a full on racial epithet," Gillis said. "This is nothing more than a dog whistle to a small, and un- fortunate, segment of America. Another way to put it is that this is a racial statement mas- querading as a scam."
Fact-checker site Snopes reports at least one version of the coupons includes a QR code which reveals a highly disturbing message once scanned: “This is a ROBBERY, Move slowly and put all the LARGE bills in the shoe box OR everyone DIES.”
Nine People Who Protested Botham Jean's Death Have Been In Jail Longer Than The Officer Who Killed Him
While Amber Guyger is getting paid to sit at home, a group of activists have been jailed for protest- ing at a Dallas Cow- boys game.
Nine people were
arrested after they
blocked an entrance at
AT&T Stadium on
Sunday, according to
Mic. The group was
protesting to demand
justice for Botham
Jean, the man who
was killed by Guyger, an off-duty Dallas Police officer. Guyger claims she mistook Jean's apartment for her own and shot him because she thought he was an intruder. She was charged with manslaughter and released two hours later after she posted bond. Guyger is currently on administrative leave.
Meanwhile, the activists were charged with obstructing a pathway, a class B misdemeanor. Non- violent protest is usually classified as a class C misdemeanor and people under that category are re- leased as soon as they post bond. Under a class B, the protesters must remain in jail until they can appear in front of a judge.
“At this point, the protesters’ ordeal has lasted 15 hours,” civil rights attorney Lee Merritt said. “These activists were arrested for blocking an entrance. Amber Guyger was arrested for killing a man and she was released within two hours.”
An email from Christopher Cook, an Arlington Police officer, claims the group was arrested be- cause they refused to follow orders, according to The Star-Telegram.
“They were given orders to disperse and not block the roadway and failed to comply,” Cook said.
Minister Dominique Alexander, president of the Next Generation Action Network, disputes that account.
“They were walking away when officers approached them,” he said.“It was pretty much already over with, yet they detained them.”
There was another protest happening at the time of the arrests, according to KGNS.
Man Arrested For Allegedly Rubbing Produce On His Butt And Putting It
 Back On The Shelf
Shoppers beware! We’ve all been to the grocery store be- fore, but probably have never seen a situation quite like this happen before. A man in a Giant Food grocery story was recently arrested for allegedly pulling down his pants and rubbing the produce on his butt. USA Today reports that police were called to the gro- cery store in Manassas, Vir- ginia after witnesses reported him to staff.
One witness mentioned that they saw a man picking up a piece of fruit and placing it on his butt then putting it back on the shelf.
The suspect, Michael Dwayne Johnson has been charged with destruction of property as well as indecent ex- posure. According to Senior
Police Officer Charles Sharp he doesn’t believe the man suf- fers from a mental health prob- lem.
Sharp also mentioned that Johnson was with someone else when the incident hap- pened. There is no word on why the alleged suspect did this or what fruit he used to perform the alleged acts. The Giant store since has destroyed several displays of produce in fear that it was contaminated.
