Son With Tampa Ties Dies While Attending Wedding In Hawaii
OFFICER RASHAD ABDULE RILEY ...Died in Hawaii

A 40-year-old man who was born in Tampa, but cur- rently lived in Santa Monica, California, died last week in Hawaii.
Rashad Abdule Riley
was born on November 1, 1978. He is the son on Car- olyn Plummer Riley, of Tampa, who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, and Rudolph Riley, Sr., of At- lanta, GA.
Rashad, who was an offi- cer with the Santa Monica Po- lice Department, and his wife, Mrs. Myra D. Riley, were in Hawaii attending a wedding on the Island of Kauai.
According to news ac- counts from Hawaii, the indi- vidual who was not identified at the time, died Friday after- noon in waters off Keoneloa Bay, also known as Shipwreck Beach in Poipu.
The Star Advertiser, a Honolulu newspaper, stated that “the man jumped off the point at Shipwreck’s and was swimming back to shore when he apparently became dis- tressed near the rocky area. Bystanders lost sight of him and called 9-1-1.”

helicopter searched for the man, whose body was located” about 40 minutes later by the helicopter team.
Riley was taken to a hos- pital where doctors pro- nounced him dead. An autopsy is pending.
Officer Riley had been with the Santa Monica Police Department for more than 4 years.
In addition to mentoring in the Santa Police Explorer and Santa Monica Police Ac- tivities League programs, Riley was also a “cherished member of the Department’s Homeless Liaison Program,” according to the Santa Monica Police Officers’ Association (SMPOA).
In addition to his parents and wife, Riley is survived by 3 children (Tylaun, Austin and Sunny London Riley); his siblings, Angel Nichole Smith and Rudolph Riley, III, of Los Angeles; and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services are planned for next Thursday, 10 a. m., in California.
