Police Chief Promotes 21 Officers; 3 Are Black

Last week, Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan an- nounced the promotions of 21 officers. The promotions range from Captain to Corpo- rals.
The position of Captain will be filled by Richard Mills. Chief Dugan named three to serve as Lieutenants. They are Eric DeFelice, Bryan Felts, and Gary Fil- ippone.
Six officers have been promoted to the rank of Ser- geants. They are: Daniel Berry, Benjamin Brown, Christina Gaudion, Michael Lippold, Whit- ney McCormick, and Au- drey Peterson.
The eleven new corporals are: Scott Conrad, Amanda Baranowski, Dwayne Dobson, Shardee Floyd, Robert

Furbush, Susan Libertz, Joseph Nemeth, Antonio Ortiz-Saldana, Edwin Perez, Mercedes San- tana, and James Smith.
The promotions are in keeping with the reorganiza- tion of the department Chief Dugan announced two weeks ago.
At that time, Chief Dugan promoted 7 officers.
Aaron’s House Founder To Host 3rd Annual Fundraiser

On Sunday, May 6th, mem- bers of the community will gather for the 3nd Annual fundraiser for Aaron’s House. The event will take place from 5 p.m. until 7:45 p.m., at the Rusty Pelican, 2425 N. Rocky Point Drive.
The theme for the event is
“A Dining Room of Hope.”
The keynote address will be de- livered by Ernest Hooper. Hooper is a Columnist & East Hillsborough Bureau Chief for the Tampa Bay Times.
Aaron’s House was founded as a 501(c)3 organization to provide temporary housing for family members and caregivers of those in need of supportive services and peer-to-peer sup- port.

Following his death, Attor-
ney Robinson opened the doors of Aaron’s House to help others who suffered losing someone to the illness, or who is currently involved with someone with chronic mental illness.
She launched Aaron’s House to help parents and members of the community recognize the signs of mental illness and to provide support.
Since launching the pro- gram, Attorney Robinson has been able to help hundreds of caregivers of those suffering from a mental illness.
This year, Attorney Robinson will recognize sev- eral members of the commu- nity. They include: former Tampa Police Chief Jane Cas- tor; Mrs. Chloe Coney, founder of the CDC of Tampa, Inc.; former professional bas- ketball player Leroy Staley;

Bipolar Disorder has been deemed the most expensive be- havioral health care to diagnose and treat. The suicide rate of those suffering from Bipolar Disorder is 50% higher than that of the general population; and 69% of Bipolar Disorder patients are misdiagnosed at least 3.5 times.
Additionally, victims of Bipolar Disorder may abuse al- cohol or drugs and may not know they are “depressed.”
