2017 Violent Deaths In Review
The death of Benjamin Rodriguez took place on May 25th at 1914 W. Columbus Drive. It was referred to the Hillsborough County State At- torney’s Office for further in- vestigation.
On June 20, 2017, Luis Diaz was killed at 1522 River Drive. Tampa Police arrested Jason Scott, 20, on June 27th, and charged him with second- degree murder.

Juan Arenas, 37, was shot following an altercation with another man on October 6th, while at 1819 French Creek Road. Deputies said they lo- cated all parties involved and no additional information was released.
Peter Akintola was killed on October 17th while at 2335 W. Nassau. His death remains under investigation.
Police responded to 1203 E. Chilkoot to investigate the death of Justin Williams on October 18th. Johnetta Shep- hard was arrested and charged.
Angel Calix, the room- mate of Derick Avila, was charged in connection with his death. He died on October 23rd at 1107 Windton Oak Drive.
On October 24th, detectives investigated the death of Mar- tin Estrada at 2703 Quail Oak Drive in Plant City. Derrick Leon was arrested and charged.
JULY JUNE
Tyson was found in a room at the Traveler’s Inn on E. Busch Blvd., on July 24th. Christo- pher Carithers was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter with a weapon.
The body of Geovany Edwin Murillo was discov- ered in a lot at 131st Avenue and Taliaferro on July 25th. Deputies arrested Angel Edwin Romero-Rivera and charged him with the murder.
Antonio Roman died on July 26th as the result of a rob- bery. Alexeis Perez, 20, was arrested and charged with first- degree murder. Xabiel Vil- lalba was arrested on July 31st and charged with third-degree murder.
AUGUST
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the death of Michael Jamar Bethel. His body was found on August 3rd at 1500 E. 143rd Avenue.
Detectives with the Tampa Police Department are contin- uing their investigating into the shooting death of Curtis Cun- ningham. He was shot by a group of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 on August 22nd. The murder took place in the 100 block of Adalee Street.
SEPTEMBER
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigated the double murder of Dremaine Johnson, 24, and 23-year-old James Nicholas that took place on September 12th. The men were shot while at the Chevron Station, 7710 Madison Avenue. Raynald Lamothe
On June 13th, the Tampa Police Department is investi- gating the murder of 42-year- old Eddie Session. The shooting took place in front of 4020 E. Osborne Avenue. The case remains an open investi- gation.
The following day, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigated the stabbing death of Johnny Morris. Morris was killed while at 1322 Windsor Way, by an un- known assailant. The case re- mains under investigation.
The Tampa Police re- sponded to the corner of 36th Street and E. Shadowlawn on June 16th in reference to a shooting. Antwan Jenrette, Jr., 18, was the victim and died at a local hospital. His murder remains an open investigation.
Sole William Hoke, 39, was arrested and charged with the June 17th murder of Ms. Metosha Godwin, 50. She was shot several times while at the corner of N. 34th Street and E. Lake Avenue and died as a result of her injuries.
Julius R. Carter became engaged in an argument and physical fight on July 3rd while in the 3400 block of N. Phillips Street. Carter was fatally shot. Police later charged Dejonta Jerome Felder with the mur- der.
Jose Anthony Quinones
died after being injured at Club Vibe, 4025 W. Waters Avenue. Eric Rivera was arrested and charged in connection with his death.
The death of Justin Dunn remains unsolved. He was killed on July 10th at 11154 N. 30th Street.
Nahshon Shannon was arrested on October 10th and charged with the death of his daughter, Janessa Shannon. The body of the 13-year-old was found in the Triple Creek Pre- serve on July 12th.
Police arrested Christo- pher Sheffield within 24 hours after Mohamoud Ibrahim was shot and killed during the robbery of his store at 2802 N. 29th Street. The murder took place on July 16th.
Antwan Dixon died after being injured at the corner of E. 93rd Avenue and 9th Street on July 20th. O’Brian Kelly was arrested and charged with the crime.
The body of Yasmine
was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Joshua Curry was ar- rested and charged with the death of Joshua McCray. The incident took place at the Turtle Creek Apartments on September 15th.
Matthew Downey, 57, was in the 5900 block of Bowen Daniel Drive when he was fa- tally shot on September 16th. Brian Baker was arrested and charged.
Tampa Police detectives are still investigating the shooting death of O’Shay Lewis. He was shot on September 18th while at the intersection of Ar- menia and Alva.
On September 26th, the body of Diana Blumenberg Medina was discovered in a lot at the corner of Spruce and Oregon. Her death remains un- solved.
OCTOBER
Duvaughn Shaheed was killed on October 1st while at 1716 E. 18th Avenue. Tampa Po- lice arrested John Jarah Hicks, III, 21, October 5th and

died after being shot while at 7518 Camerina Calle. Rey- naldo Hernandez was charged with his murder. The
death took place on October 26th.
