City Of Tampa Black History Committee Awards $32,250 In Scholarships
The City of Tampa Black History Committee recognized 25 students with scholarships and book stipends when the 17th Annual Scholarship Awards ceremony was held, May 17 at the Holiday Inn Westshore.
According to Sponsorship Chair, Bettye Greene Johnson, “this year was our biggest year ever, awarding $32,250 to 25 students by way of 4 Presidential Scholarships at $2,500 each; 3 Bobby Bowden Scholarships at $3,000 each; 3 Janett S. Martin Scholarships at $1,000; 1 Greater Bethel M.B. Church - Harold B. Scott Scholarship at $1,000; 3 Vocational Scholarships at $1,500 each. Also, 8 Book Stipends at $500 each; and 3 Vocational Book Stipends at $250 each were awarded.” From the first year of awarding scholarships, which dates back to 1999 to 2016, the City of Tampa Black History Commit- tee has awarded a total of $159,000.
