Arts Legacy REMIX: A Haitian Celebration And A Day To Remember
BY MONIQUE STAMPS Sentinel Staff Writer
After a long summer break, the Straz Center’s Arts Legacy REMIX is back to celebrate cultural diversity and cele- brate the many varied cultures and talented artists in the Tampa Bay area.
On Friday, November 18, 2022, 14, 2022, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Selebrasyon Ayisyen (Haitian Celebration) – A Day to Remember will be held at the Straz Center’s Riverwalk Stage.
The outdoor event will cele- brate the rich culture of the is- land nation with music, literature, and visual arts.
Fred Johnson, Artistic Di- rector for the Arts Remix, says that the world should learn more about the significant contributions of the Haitian people.
He emphasized that the world should recognize the huge cultural impact of Hait- ian artists and musicians.
“We feel that Haiti is often overlooked in the discussion. We want to bring a heightened awareness to the plight of Haiti, and Haitians. Haiti is
facing many challenges in food and water availability. There is also political unrest.
“With the celebration, we wanted to the history of Haiti, while also reminding people that there are opportunities to help the people.”
The event is free to the public. More information can be found at https://www.strazcen- ter.org/Events/Straz/Sho ws/2223_Arts-Legacy- Remix/Haitian-Sele- brasyon-A-Day-to-Reme mber.
