Fatal Shooting Of
Ex-Saints Player
A business
owner and semi-
professional foot-
ball player was
indicted Thurs-
day on a second-
degree murder
charge in the
shooting death of
retired New Or-
leans Saints' defensive end Will Smith.
Cardell Hayes was also in- dicted on a charge of attempted second-degree murder because police say he wounded Smith's wife in the shooting. Hayes and Smith got into an argument after Hayes's Hummer hit Smith's Mercedes SUV from behind on April 9, police said. Smith's wife was in the passenger seat at the time.
Hayes' defense lawyer John Fuller has said Hayes was not the aggressor and that a witness saw a gun in Smith's possession. Police say a loaded gun was found in Smith's vehicle.
A lawyer for Smith's family, Peter Thomson, insists Smith never brandished or car- ried a gun. Thomson has de- scribed Hayes as "enraged" during the altercation and por- trayed his clients as the victims.
Smith was shot seven times in the back and once along his side, the coroner said. His wife, Rac- quel, was shot twice but survived.
Suspended Marlin Dee Gordon Says He Unknowingly Took PEDs
Marlins manager Don Mat- tingly managed Gordon dur- ing his first three big league seasons in Los Angeles before he was traded to Miami in a seven-player deal in December 2014. Gordon singled home the tying run and scored an in- surance run in the Marlins' 6-3 victory over the Dodgers on Thursday. Players can be put on leave during investigations of domestic violence allegations, but those typically stem from police reports and public inci- dents.
Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, the National League's reigning bat- ting champion, has been sus- pended 80 games after testing positive for performance-en- hancing drugs.
But David Samson added that the news was "a huge, huge disappointment to the kids to our fans, to his teammates and to everyone in our organization who works hard every day". "I have been careful to avoid products that could contain something banned by Major League Baseball and the 20- plus tests that I have taken and passed throughout my career prove this", he said. "I made a mistake and accept the conse- quences". In both seasons he
DEE GORDON
was named an All-Star, while winning his first Gold Glove award a year ago.
Major League Baseball said Gordon, who inked a five- year, $50 million contract ex- tension in January, tested positive for exogenous testos- terone and the anabolic agent clostebol. Gordon had also played, for an unspecified pe- riod of time, after his positive test and before he dropped his appeal.
The speedy Gordon is the son of former All-Star pitcher Tom Gordon. He is an important member of this or- ganization and will be for many years to come. A lefthanded batter like Gordon, Dietrich can hit and is coming off a clus- ter of starts at third base in place of Martin Prado, who was on paternity leave, giving him a chance to warm up his bat (he has a.992 OPS over his last six games).

Floyd Mayweather: I'm Being Offered '9 Figures' To Come Back
Retired boxer Floyd May- weather might not be retired for much longer.
"Everyone is asking me, 'Is Floyd Mayweather coming back?' Right now, I'm happy being on this side, but I've been talking with CBS and Showtime and you just never know," May- weather told Showtime's Jim Gray.
Mayweather said upward of "nine figures" have been thrown around for a possible comeback. He said he'd also likely need a championship fight to do it.
The 39-year-old May- weather hasn't fought since September's bout against Andre Berto.
Mayweather's win over Berto tied him with legendary

Rocky Mar- ciano for the best record ever for a retired champion. He said the oppor- tunity to go 50- 0, along with the
money, could motivate his re- turn.
While many fans are calling for a bout against the unde- feated Gennady Golovkin at 160 pounds, Mayweather al- luded that's not very likely.
Mayweather said right now he's happy with being on the out- side of the ring, working with his Mayweather Promotions brand. But, per usual, let's not count Mayweather out just yet.
