21-Year-Old Found Dead In Front Seat Of Car

On Sunday, May 1st at 4:17 a. m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a call saying an individual was found dead in the front seat of a ve- hicle at the Park Ravenna Apartments.
The man was later identi- fied as Angel Manuel Her- nandez, 21.
Investigators are in the process of determining the owner of the vehicle and said the tag was not assigned to the vehicle.
No information has been released on how the man was killed or if any suspects have been identified.
Couple Arrested After Standoff

A Riverview couple was arrested after a standoff with Hillsborough County Sher- iff’s Office SWAT team and crisis negotiators last Wednesday.
Deputies received a call at 10 a.m. about a disturbance at 12702 Darla Drive involv- ing a man armed with a gun, who was beating a woman. When there was no response at the door, additional units set up a perimeter.
Several messages for the occupants to leave the house were unsuccessful, so the

SWAT and Crisis Negotia- tion Team were called to the scene, deputies said. After negotiations the couple, Joseph Petway, 39, and Sabrina Mendoza, 25, were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.
Petway is being held on $13,500 bail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated as- sault with a deadly weapon. Mendoza is being held on $5,000 bail on charges of vi- olation of probation for petit theft and failure to appear.
Hillsborough Commissioners Seek Applications For Citizen
Boards And Councils
Applications due May 26, 2016
Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County. These are voluntary positions and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time unless specifically approved by the BOCC. All appli- cants must submit a completed Questionnaire for County Ap- pointments and a Standards of Conduct form. There are also other requirements for each board or council.
The deadline to apply is May 26, 2016. Appointments will be scheduled for a meeting of the Board of County Commission- ers in June or July 2016.
The forms are available in the Commissioners’ reception area on the second floor of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa; by calling the Boards and Councils Coordi- nator at (813) 272-5826; or on the County’s website at: www.HillsboroughCounty.org. Click on the “Government” link on the top of the page, then the “Boards and Committees” sub- link. The Application Questionnaire for County Appointments is in the middle of the page, along with the Standards of Conduct Form. These forms can be filled out and printed, and then scanned and emailed, faxed, hand-delivered, or mailed. All forms must be signed and dated and be completed in entirety to be eligible. Additional directions for submission are listed on the questionnaire.
If you apply to a board that requires a background check, you must also submit a Background Investigation Disclosure and Au- thorization form, which is also on the webpage listed above.

Driver Hospitalized, Passenger Killed In Accident
Involving Train
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is currently in- vestigating a traffic accident that left a 20-year-old man dead. The accident occurred in Plant City last Saturday shortly after 4 p.m.
According to police, the crash took place on Candis Road and Paul Buckman Highway.
Bruce Dean, 19, of Plant City, was driving an SUV on Candis Road and attempted to beat a CSX freight train, but drove into its path. The train struck the passenger side of the SUV. On impact, the train pushed the truck off the rail- road tracks into a ditch, where it overturned on the driver’s side, police said.
The passenger was identi- fied as Angel Fidel Garcia- Vera, of Plant City. Garcia-Vera died as a result of his injuries. Dean was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
The investigation into the accident is continuing, police said.
