Police Search For Two In Robbery, Shooting

 Detectives with the Bartow Police Department are searching for two men in con- nection with an armed rob- bery and shooting. The incident took place last Thursday.
According to police, the victims are from another country and in the United States as part of a student ex- change program. The victims began communicating with a person on Facebook about the purchase of a cell phone. The victims were eventually lured to Azalea Gardens, 1050, Golfview Avenue, in Bartow, to complete the transaction.
However, when the two victims arrived, they were robbed at gunpoint, pistol whipped, and shots were fired at them. The victims sus- tained lacerations to their heads as a result of being pis-

vestigation led them to Jonathan L. Vaughn, 21, as one of the suspects. Vaughn is facing charges of 2 counts armed robbery with a firearm, 2 counts of aggra- vated assault with a deadly weapon possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in

fied the second suspect. How- ever, they have released a photograph of him from so- cial media.

      8 Indicted For Conspiracy To Distribute Drugs
    Last week, U. S. Attor- ney Maria Chapa Lopez announced the return of an indictment charging 8 people with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, in- cluding heroin. If convicted, they face penalties ranging from 40 years to life in fed- eral prison.
Those indicted were: Rodolfo Quiles, 33, Melissa Vasquez, 28, and Alejandro Ortiz-Mendez, a/k/a “Andrew,” 43, all of Tampa.
California residents who were indicted are: Gil William Garcia-Libran, a/k/a “Giwi,” 48, Stephen Johnson, 25, and Mauri-
cio Ojeda, a/k/a “Pari- ente,” 39, all of San Diego, CA. Eduardo Trujillo, a/k/a/ “B.E.T.,” 38, of Chula Vista, CA, and Melissa Day Swycaffer, 22, of National City, CA, were also indicted.
According to court docu- ments, the defendants were part of a drug-trafficking or- ganization that shipped kilo- gram-quantities of heroin, fentanyl, and other controlled substances from California to Florida and other east coast destinations for distribution. During the investigation, agents seized multiple kilo- grams of drugs that were des- tined for central Florida.
