The TBBCC Shining Star
Mentoring Program is a community-based mentor- ing program that delivers one-on-one support to the youth, ages 8-13 years old in the form of a mentor (a car- ing adult advocate) to mentee (youth) relation- ship.
For the past eleven years, the Tampa Bay Black Cham- ber of Commerce, Inc. (TBBCC) has been dedicated to promoting Economic Em- powerment and Sustainabil- ity in the Tampa Bay Area community.
It is the organization’s commitment and responsi- bility to launch the Shining Star Mentoring Program.
Those chosen to partici- pate in the program come from different backgrounds and offer diverse experiences and occupations to support youth successes.
Mentors must commit to spending 1 hour per week (four hours per month) with their mentoring match for a minimum of a year. All men- tor participants would go through the mentoring process.
Envisioned for the 2018- 2019 school year and on- wards, the TBBCC Shining Star Mentoring Program will be collaborating with the Hillsborough County School District to provide multifac- eted mentoring services to the Tampa Bay Area youth.
Ms. Alfreda Hodges Ryles Program Director said, “We need mentors. We want to put the word out about the Tampa Bay Black Chamber of Commerce, Inc. Shining Star Mentoring Pro- gram.”
